Raid 0 and lower GHz processor or higher processor speed w/o Raid hard drives?

i have a 3000 dollar budget and it comes down to being able to put raid 0 and downgrade the processor or put the money into the proccessor for faster GHz and not have raid

For 3000 dollars it is hard to believe you cannot afford both. If you had told us which processors you are comparing, we would have been able to give you a more accurate answer. If you are talking abotu going from a $300 to $500 processor, then I would say don't waste the money. It depends on whether you're doing "hardware" or "software" RAID.

In "software" RAID, the OS (Windows, Linux, Solaris X86) has to do all of the work.

In "hardware" RAID, your disk controller does all of the work.

If you're planning on doing "software" RAID, then, yes factor in a bigger processor.

Frankly, I prefer hardware RAID (built into the motherboard or disk controller).

Raid0 will increase disk IO performance so if you will be doing alot of disk intensive applications (databases, video) that is the way to go. BUT if you want CPU intensive apps (games and such) go with the faster CPU.

for 3 grand I could build 3 gaming systems, geezumcrow, build your own and don't pay for someone else to do it!!!!
