- this morning, it was working fine, the problem happened this afternoon
- it is now at 100% CPU usage (see windows task manager) from the startup compared to my laptop which is at 2% CPU usage
- i am using windows xp at 1GB ram
- most of my startup programs have been disabled since the action was taken

I bought the McAFEE p.c. virus protection package about a year ago. I am getting a notice coming up that it runs out in 2 weeks.Does this mean I have to pay again for the protection.I thought once you had installed the protection it lasted forever.If they are asking more than I paid for the package to continue the protection.Would I be better off getting a new package if it's on a special offer as the existing one was and install that,instead of renewing same over the net?

Somehow I've picked up this annoying pop up disguised as a windows dialogue box

Its headed " Language pack installation" and gives the following info.
" To display language characters correctly you need to install the following language packs, chinese simplified"

It has the check box " Never install any language packs"
and the usual "Install" and "Cancel" boxes.

The thing is, the popup bloker is enabled. Firewall & anti virus along with spybot are up to date and not picking up anything.
Of course clicking the boxes has no effect except getting rid of it for about 3 mins then its back.
Out of frustration I've clicked intall only to cancel a nano second later after seeing the heading " Dirty disgusting..... " Didnt catch the rest.
I'm tempted just to download the thing and let the anti virus take care of it, UNLESS anyone knows better!

I have Intel Pentium 4(2.4 GHz) with 384 MB RAM,17 inch Samsung monitor.I have Windows XP Pro.My problem is that I can't install Windows XP Pro SP2 on my computer.When I try to install Win XP SP2 it goes normally untill setup files are copied to my computer then the screen freezes.My CD is original.Is the problem in my BIOS or what?

Assuming other specs are the same and prices about the same, which would you prefer:

a) HP AMD 64 bit Sempron processor (Sempron 3200+ (64 bit)
b) Dell Intel Pentium D 915 with Dual Core Processor (2.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 x 2 MB L2 cache)

My friend just needs a basic PC to surf the internet, use Word, Excel. The PC should last for a few years hopefully.

I need to use Skype for work so shutting it off is not an option. My status options are Online, Offline, Skype Me (I never set it to this), Away, Not Available, Do Not Disturb, and Invisible. If I set myself to "Away" or "Not Available" people that need to get in touch with me think they can't. If I set it to "Do Not Disturb", my contacts think I don't want to be bothered, but random guys ignore the status and still try to chat.

So far I have tried putting up an unflattering cartoon as my avatar and putting a greeting message that sounds commerical. This has helped, but guys who are desparate, insane, unable to speak English, or a combo of the 3, remain undeterred.

When I tell some of these guys that I am married and not interested, some get hostile and ask why I am on Skype if I do not want to send or receive naked pix and don't have a webcam.

Is this just happening to women or are guys being hassled? Is there a vast misconception out there that Skype = Match.com?
