I've heard that there is a new Open source sound layer that sits over ALSA, and is cross platform. I didn't catch the name, does anybody know if it exists? (or was I dreaming)

My husband and I don’t have a home phone because we have cellphones. We do have cable though and I am curious if I should get the computer hooked up through my cable(would this still require a phone?) or should I go with wireless internet? How much is wireless, how do I have it installed, and what accessories do I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated. While I know how to work a computer, I certainly am not a computer wiz. Thanks!

I keep getting bumped off the internet. I have Norton Internet Security enabled. So, I am assuming it's not a virus; but what else could it be? This just started happening a few weeks ago and is very sporatic.

With Volkswagen developing a car that can drive ITSELF - saw a test the other day on the News with a terrified journalist being driven around a racetrack at 85mph with no one at the driving seat and it wasn't being driven by remote control neither; considering the unbelievable arrogance of the answers that I received about UNDO BUTTONS in software packages - do you not feel that when this car rolls off the assembly line - that an UNDO button might not be a good idea? Or perhaps the people who answered my original question feel he should downloand an update as the car malfunctions or sin of sins he presses the wrong button and can't UNDO?

Remember the disasterous demo of the Microsoft Vista voice recognition programme !!!

This sort-out-once-in-the-market - JUST GET THE MONEY IN attitude is unbelieveably dangerous and even made reference to in the James Bond film 'Tomorrow Never Dies'. If we continue with this philosophy - the conclusion can a only be a version of The Terminator !

I am from the Philippines. There has been a mistake with my mastercard debit card with banco de oro.
I opened a geocities pro account, and they deducted the necessary fees for website hosting and domain name registration. This reflected in my bank account and i got a domain name (www.111teamfirst.com) and geocities pro hosted my site, which i transferred and modified from my free geocities site .
My free site consequently disappeared.
Now, the automatic debit from my card did not happen. Geocities kept sending me messages of defunct payment. I kept replying back to them but they didnt reply back. Until my site was totally cancelled - along with all the work and time and effort i put in the site. It turned out there was a problem with my bank's internet payment capability.
Can I still retrieve my site data/info? I f i can, How and Where?

is there a way in java to get get local machine time (ie the time on my computer) and print it out so that it is in the format of say mon aug 15 08:52:39 2006.

I'v tried using the calendar class but all the values it returns are integers, for example instead of mondayit would return 2 and isnstead of aug it would return 8. I considered writing a few lines of code that convert theses integers to their relevant strings but this would be too long winded and i'm sure there's gotta be a more efficient way to it.

ps, what i'm trying to do is write a program which reads the time from another machine and mymachine then works out the differnece between the two times.

I use WORD 2oo2 and I'd like to know whether there a way to bookmark THE LAST WORD I TYPED in a document. Apparently the only way is to highlight the line and then scroll the pages the following time I open the document, which is rather long and boring.
On my old MAC I could go back 4 steps and easily copy , paste and then go backwards and forwards in the two points I was copying and pasting. NOW there is no way to do so. Every time I have to scroll the pages to find the point I was writng at.
Am I totally stupid or there's really no way to jump to and fro in a document in this super new program (!!!)

Now large companies like dell will send parts and let you replace them without voiding the warranty. I want to know the first computer that hardware replacement, (Hard drives,Video cards, Processors, etc.) ,were an easy and even recommended task for the average consumer.
