I would like to reinstall my Windows XP. I have a retail version, but it is not bootable. If i run and install windows when my computer is loaded and running, will it prompt me at any point of time to format my computer? That what i want to do, format it

There is a process called svchost.exe that takes up 97-99% of my CPU usage each time i start my notebook or connect to the internet. This happens for 5-10 minutes each time. The pc just hangs, and after 5-10 minutes, its back to normal. Anyone knows what is wrong?

I've got lots and lots of pictures on my computer. I know that I NEED to back-up my files. But what is the best way? Burn a CD? Buy an external hard drive? I have a wireless network set up in my home, however, whenever I connect to it from my laptop, the desktop computer loses internet connection. The laptop then is unable to connect to the internet via the network. Whenever I connect to any other wireless network, I can access the internet just fine. I currently have a modem, netgear router, 2 ethernet and many other cables. Do you have any idea of how I could set up this network and be able to connect to it from my laptop and access the internet without harming the desktops accessibility to the internet ruined.

I have a Medion Desktop. Pentium4 3.0ghz. 800mhz FSB. I have 512mb ram.

1) I want to upgrade the Ram. How do I know what kind to get? I havent mucked with that stuff in years. I want to go to atleast 1GB.

2) My cooling fan is running NON-STOP! I think I need a larger heatsink and better fan. Sudgestions? Thermal lube? Is there a way to check the health of my CPU? To see if its too hot?

I have some laptop parts laying around as a result of a broken LCD monitor. Among other parts, I want to reuse the CD-RW/DVD combo drive on my desktop system. I know there are adapters available that can convert the drive to work on my desktop, but I also want to mount the drive inside one of the drive bays. It looks like I may be able to fit two drives in one 5.25" slot. I'm hoping I can do this. Please give me good news! Oh and a few links to a product would be great too. :D
