I understood that the agencies involved are not announcing this information. Why? Afraid to cast a negative light on their NAFTA debacle?

I have also noticed that they look down upon people who follow traffic rules.

The only motive behind following some rules is to avoid getting a ticket from the traffic cops.

When driving on the highway/freeway (roads at high speeds)...

do you consider the danger factor to be the same

a) if you were driving 2 feet behind a regular sized vehicle (a sedan, or suv, or minivan, etc)

compared to

b) driving behind a semi-truck or big rig?

I need your opinion to settle this idea with a friend. Thanks!

if you were in a car at a traffic lights with no room to turn, and a police car or ambulance with flashing lights pulled up behind you and wanted to pass you, is it legal for you to cross the lights if they are on red?
Same thing with if you are on a narrow street with nowhere to turn are you allowed to speed up?

I was at a bank yesterday in St. Pete, FL and when I came out to leave I got in my truck, looked both ways, and started to back out. When I was about half way out I looked back to the front corner of my truck to make sure I wasn't going to hit the car in the space next to me. When I looked forward a woman in a car came driving through the lane and I hit her passenger side. She was traveling fast enough for the bumper of my truck to rake across about three feet of the passenger side of her car. We exchanged information and didn't involve the police. The only damage my truck sustained was to the bumper, her car on the other hand will need some body work. I just want to know what you all think, and maybe see what you think should be done.

I am a young woman who drives a 40-minute commute to college in New England, at 7 AM and 2 PM. These back roads should really be one-way, they are so small, and there are many tight corners and twists. The posted speed limit varies from 30-45, and the speed is appropriate; the most dangerous sections have the lowest speed limits. I generally go the posted speed limit or 5-7 over on the safer parts. Usually every day I have some jerk who tailgates me so closely I can't see most of their hood in my mirror. Sometimes they blow past me on double yellow lines at 55-60 mph on the 30 mph section. A lot of people recommend teasing with your break lights, or using your hazards, but I'm afraid of being crashed into or (however unlikely) shot at. To those who would suggest pulling over to let them pass; there is literally no room on these roads for me to do so. I maintain my speed when there is a tailgater behind me, but it makes me really nervous. Is there anything better I can do?

I have low profile 225/19 tires on my car and the side wall is starting to form a bubble. Why is that happening? How dangerous is it to drive with it the way it is?

I have had multiple tickets but yet senior citizens who pull out in front of people or people yacking on cell phones rarely get them. They cause the accidents.

Hello. My husband continues to feel like he's a good enough driver to text while driving, sometimes talks on the phone, drives and texts, sometimes reads, sometimes talks on the phone while eating and drinking things which require opening and closing! We live in a high congestion city and he spends a lot of time in the car and also takes long road trips often. He feels that he is a good driver and that he can do all those things safely and my asking him not to is a nagging thing. We've often had to jam on breaks or swerve to miss hitting others because he wasn't paying attention, and swerved to catch exits almost missed as well. It doesn't make sense to me to risk his life, my life, the lives of others or our children someday just to make a call or have a chat. I'd LOVE links to articles, published studies, anything by 'experts' that attests to the extreme danger of multi-tasking while driving. I feel he'd listen more to that than to the 'nagging' wife. thanks for your help.

I was driving through a parking lot today trying to find a spot. Well, this car starts to pull out in front of me so I hit my breaks. The parking lines are slanted though so she was headed right for me. There wasn't enough time to back up so I layed down on my horn. She was really mad...I thought I had the right of way but now I'm not sure because she was so mad. She was within inches of hitting my car! Would it have been my fault or hers for not checking her mirrors?

This happened about a year ago, but I was walking down the sidewalk and saw a car about to pull out from the entrance to the gas station. I looked at the driver to make eye contact so that she could see I was walking in front of her. I thought she saw that I was there, but apparently not.

She started to shoot out into the street (there was an opening in traffic) and she hit me. I flipped off the side of her car, but I wasn't hurt. I was a little surprised and facing the opposite direction, so I wasn't able to get her license number.

There was no way she didn't realize that she had hit me. I pretty much flew past the windshield. She put on the gas and sped out of there as quickly as possible. Was this and hit and run since I wasn't hurt? and what should have done?

Here's the example:
I was leaving a restaurant in my car with my bro following behind in his car - we were going to another destination and it was dark.
I noticed while on the main road his headlights weren't on!! I couldn't think how to tell him his lights were off as he's behind me!!! ended up having to stop and tell him lol

is there a way to tell someone behind you to turn their lights on?

Best answer chosen as always thanks:p
