When driving on the highway/freeway (roads at high speeds)...

do you consider the danger factor to be the same

a) if you were driving 2 feet behind a regular sized vehicle (a sedan, or suv, or minivan, etc)

compared to

b) driving behind a semi-truck or big rig?

I need your opinion to settle this idea with a friend. Thanks!

Tailgating, regardless of who you're doing it to, is the single most dangerous practice out there. Not to mention the annoyance it causes to the person you're tailgating. If I was allowed to decree the punishment for it lets just say the men wouldn't be fathering any kids afterwards and the women would be flat chested.

Tell your friend that this is a stupid bet.

In both cases you risk being killed, maimed, hospitalized almost for life.

If you are behind a regular vehicle & it has to jam on the breaks for any reason, you don't have time to drive safely any place else since with a swerve, the odds are pretty good you will roll over, then some other vehicle will drive over you. If you stay in the same lane and crash into the back end of the car in front, someone behind you then crash into you and your car has become like an accordion.

Behind the big rig, you probably won't see trouble ahead that would cause it to suddenly brake, and of course in that position they don't see you in rear veiw mirror, so odds are your car will go under the back end of the big rig, with your body below your head there, but your head got smashed like a melon.

Tailgating is a form of Russian Roulette ... even if there's no accident, you have made the driver in front of you so angry with you, that given an opportunity they will do something to make you dead, if it can be made to look like an accident.

Well, braking is different with 18 wheelers. They can't stop anywhere near as fast as cars. However, that means you will actually have more reaction time behind the 18 wheeler than the car/suv. However, it sucks for the guy who slams on his brakes in front of the 18 wheeler, assuming the diesel driver wasn't looking ahead.

no, because, when you rear-end a passenger car, you can cauze them to lose control.

when u reaerend a semi, chances are the driver wont even know something hit it, so, there would only be damage to the front of your car

2 feet? You are serious, aren't you? You are in mortal danger either way, so what is the difference?

MORE DANGEROUS BEHIND THE SEMI BECAUSE AT JUST TWO FEET YOU WOULD BE KILLED INSTANTLY IF THE TRUCK STOPPED.

well yes because they're both so close to each other that should one decide to stop suddenly, you may not react quick enough to break and you may crash into them.
