I really like my old 79 Ford Bronco 4x4.I have never had a truck with huge tires like this one before, and I paid only $80 (eighty)for this truck.I have had it over a year now and never drive it except around my acreage. We get alot of snow, 2 feet right now.People with 4x4's even get stuck in their driveways, but my old 79 just cruises thru it like nothing. It kinda reminds me of a bulldozer because it is so huge. The big red coil springs in the front remind me of a bulldozer or something.Right now the engine is running, it dosnt leak or burn oil, but since I am on a budget I want to take the next couple of years to do up an engine for my truck.I find nothing but good about the original 351M on all the searches ive done.I also found that a 429, 460, and 400M will basically bolt right up to my transmission.Considering that this truck will only be driven in winters, and around my acreage, which engine would be the best to build up? I am totally amazed at how my $80 truck performs. Thanks

My spouse thinks we should rent a car when we travel over the holidays (600 miles in three days) instead of adding miles to either of our cars (one is a 2002 Olds Alero with 61,000 miles and the other is a 2007 Saturn Ion with 500 miles). I'm not fond of paying extra money to rent a vehicle. Also, my father always said it's good to give cars some "highway miles," especially if they are primarily driven in city traffic, as ours are. Which is better--rent to avoid adding mileage or save the money but add miles?

excuse me, this question may be quite dumb, but isnt getting a car wash in the winter counterproductive? I mean my car is going to get filthy again. I know I have to deal with the weather but winter is hell on vehicles.

Reading the postings on here, it is obvious that for some strange reason, many people think 4X4s should only be used by farmers. They are under the impression that a 4 wheel drive vehicle should only be used for going off road. What about 4X4s which are no good off road, (BMW X5, Volvo C90, Subaru Imprezza etc)? Who would decide who could have one? And what would be the criteria? It seems to be the only thing is they have 4 wheel drive. If a car is 50% bigger, does half the mpg and has worse emmisions than a car which has 4 wheel drive, that's ok. A 4X4 is HUGE. Park a Suzuki Jimny next to a BMW 7 Series. Now, are you SURE the 4X4 is HUGE? Compare the mpg of the Jimny to a Porche 911. Which one is the gas guzzler. Then of course, we have the '4X4's are designed to be driven off road. Well some are, but by no means all. Some have the ability to go off road. They don't HAVE to. By the same token a Mercedes may have the ability to go 150mph. It doesn't have to, so lets have a bit of sense

Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 115 BHP LX Estate
VW Passat 1.9 TDI S Estate, or
Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 130 Elegance Estate

Skoda is lowest tax, Mondeo is highest.
All come with air con and CD player, but no extras are allowed

I know nothing about cars, I'd be happy with any of them but I'd really like your views.

Translated from a French newspaper:

"Banned after tragic accident - Driver was wearing stiletto heels -

A young woman whose car struck two pedestrians - leaving one dead and another seriously injured - was yesterday banned from driving for two years.
Catherine M., 25, pleaded guilty to careless driving.
(…)
Catherine M. was attemping to stop for a red light when her stiletto heel got stuck on the gas pedal. She panicked and struggled to pull it off, but only managed to press the gas pedal harder. This caused her vehicle to run over pedestrians Nicole P. and Laurence L.
(…)
She was wearing shoes with 7-centimeter-heels at the time of the accident."

Would it be the same here in the UK ? Is it illegal to wear high heels for driving ?
