Even though your car gets filthy after you wash it in the winter, salt that is spread on the street after a storm to melt the ice and snow gets on your car and eats away at the paint job and you will have a bunch of little rust dots decorating your car. Wash it once in a while instead of just letting it sit there and you'll be taking good care of your car.

When the weather is nice, about freezing so you don't have water turning to ice and are locked out of your car due to water getting into the key hole, it's a good idea to wash off the salt and sand to avoid rust. A clean car just looks better and states that you are taking care of it too. I only wash my car only once during winter...usually when we hit the 40 degree mark which will be this weekend!

I think you should get is washed after a big snow hits and then after it melts because of the salt they put on the streets. I've heard that it can make a car rust. Otherwise, I feel the same way about washing a vehicle. Especially after one too many times that it has rained right after I get done washing it.

You need to wash your vehicle in winter because all the salt they put down on the roads is corrosive and will make your car rust alot faster

If you let the salt from the road build up on your paint and undercarriage of the car, it will increase the likelyhood of the car rusting out. You should wash the salt off of your car no less than 48 hours after the storm.

Mainly to get the salt off. The salt they use on roads can play hell with the metal on your car, particularly underneath, i.e. rust, corrosion (sorry for the redundancy) and such. Washing your car helps remove the salt, and extends the life of the car.

It allows you to wash off all that road salt and the other chemicals and gunk that is on the road. If not removed this gunk will eat away at your car. As a result your car will wear out sooner than it should.

well if you are in a snow covered part of the nation, than it's to keep corrosion down on your car. In upstate NY where I live we also get protective under coating done before winter. Salt is hell on cars!!!

The road salt and chemicals remain active in the corrosion/oxidation process even when dry. Washing them off will prolong your vehicle.

its to clean off any gunk, salt, grease,or fliuds that can be in the snow youre going thru.vehicles in the north with a high metal content in the construction will develop what is referred to as "cancer" which is a apt analogy.the rust will eat away your vehicles body, and may lead to electrical problems as well as condensation reacts with the salt.in effect it can accelerate your cars rusting once it gets a good foothold on your vehicle.
