changing of lanes means that you are in one lane and you move either to the lane on the left or lane on the right and stay there. Overtaking is similar except the purpose is to be in the same lane as you were but infront of the car that was previosly infront of you. so you need to first change lanes, go faster than the car you wish to pass and the when clear, move back into the lane you were in and now you will be infront of the car that was previosly infront of you.

*clutches head in total abject horror* And I share the same roads, let alone the same planet with this moron!!?
Okay Michael Schumacher- lets re sit your driving test.
Car in front going slower than you. You indicate to drive around him. (Please dear God tell me you understand the term "indicate".)
You pull out from behind him, pass or "overtake" him and then indicate back into your previous lane.
Changing lanes involves going from one lane the next. (I seriously can't believe I am having to explain this...) No other cars involved. It just means you're sick of the left hand lane and you want to be in the right hand lane.
You were nicked by the Police because you drove over lines on the road indicating you are not allowed to do so.
They, realising they were in the presence of extreme and dramatic idiocy, pulled you over before your basic mind and lack of knowledge killed someone else.
Find a wall- ram your forehead against it five times. Then call a driving instructor and ask for a refresher course. Then re-sit your test. Then do an advanced driver training course.
Then once thats done- DO IT AGAIN!!!
Forget your life and any plans you've made! Grab a copy of the road rules and read it 50 times cover to cover! Then do it another 50 times until you're reciting it in your sleep.

Overtaking is when you change lanes in order to pass another car illegaly. For instance, if you were on the middle lane, and were blocked by another car and you merged onto the slow lane to pass them, that'd be illegally overtaking.
