It is not faded all over but in patches so i thought there may be a polish with a red pigment in it that may work, or any suggestions. Many Thanks

I used to own a 1986 VW Diesel Golf. It was pretty slow, but it got great mileage and was extremely reliable (at least the engine was...). I had over 250,000 miles on it when I traded it in, and it ran just as good as it did with 80,000 (when I bought it).

Modern diesel engines from Volkswagen and the like have turbo chargers and with the advent of low-sulfur diesel and bio-diesel, burn much cleaner.

So, when will we see more diesel cars on the US market? Chrysler did a diesel version of its Jeep Liberty, and by all accounts it sold well (from what I can tell, as when I tried to buy one, there were none in the dealer's inventories), and kept it on the market for one year.

Ford, Chrysler, Honda and the like all have diesel versions of their cars in Europe.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking about buying a Jetta. I really liked the car during the test drive but I was told by a relative that Jettas require a lot of expensive repairs compared to similar cars.

PLEASE DON'T ANSWER UNLESS YOU'VE OWNED A JETTA FOR AT LEAST 15 MONTHS!

About 80% of Jettas on the road are driven by young women (mostly hot), I know this because they usually have some sort of brightly colored Hawaiian Lei hanging from their rearview.

Hi,

The front driver and passenger doors are not being recognised as opened, my car is a five door. When the rear doors are open the interior lights turn on but if the front 2 doors are opened the lights in the doors or any interior lights don't come on at all, I've checked all the fuses they seem to be O.k.
This is a problem because if the headlights are on, originally when the key is taken out and the door is opened it will sound a beep letting you know to switch the lights off, But because the doors are not being recognised this doesn't happen either.

Does anyone know where the switch is for both doors and where the fuse is situated in the fuse box as there are some fuses missing and I cannot find the fuse card to see exactly which one it is for this. or has anyone had this problem before and how can I sort it.

I got new tires for my jetta last year and it acts like it has no grip at all even in little snow it just slides and I panic and drive at 20mph with the hazards on - it's that bad! Someone had mentioned that I should be driving on a "downshift"...is there something I'm supposed to doing?

I recently purchased a 2001 VW jetta with 90K miles on it. It's a 2.0 non-turbo with a five speed manual (I traded from an automatic Explorer). I love the car so far but sometimes at speed of about 55 it's like it bumps a little bit, kind of like hesitation or a toned down version of what it feels like to run out of gas the bump bump before it cuts off, also sometimes it idles really fast when it's first started up and then once on the road it calms right down, this is my first german car so I am VERY gun shy if you are a VW person with experience on these matters or any good advice for a first time Vdubber let me know your advice, I really hope it's nothing major. I hope I didn't make a mistake switching from american/japanese cars. THANKS!

My cd charger in my 2000 Jetta VR6 has stopped working. I went to Best Buy and they told me if I put an aftermarket charger in my car that my alarm would stop working. Has anyone tried this or had this problem?

I wish I were mechanical. I have a VW Super Beetle. It has a rebuilt engine that runs good. The problem is that whenever I'm not pushing on the gas the car stalls. The used to happen when I first started the car up and it needed to warm up. Now it happens even after the car has been running 10 minutes or more. It's got to be something else.

Is there a good website where I can go to get step by step instructions on fixing it?

Thanks

I was just quoted $410 by a VW dealership (in Atlanta) for an 80,000 mile service on my 2001 Jetta. I'm curious if it's best to go to a dealership for such a big service, or if I could go to a smaller shop and get a cheaper price, but still get quality service. Is $410 a reasonable price to pay?

i had a 2000 nb for a while and when it started giving me too many costly problems i sold it and bought a very reliable nissan.
now i'm in the market for another car, a used one. and i keep seeing beetles and they're just so cute. i'd really like to get another one, but from what i've heard from other new beetle owners they have lots of problems as well...so it wasn't just the one i had.

i was wondering if there's a particular year/style that wasn't so bad for the new beetle. i'm a student and i can handle normal upkeep costs but i cannot afford to replace lights, o2 sensors, windows and gas release switches every few months. not to mention whatever it was that kept turning my check engine light on.

any input/advice/experience would be great.

I am rebuilding a 1970 Type I Volkswagen Beetle engine. When I took the engine apart there was only one air deflector on the right side of the engine underneath the cylinders and above the push rod tubes.

Should there also be one on the other side of the engine?
