i had a 2000 nb for a while and when it started giving me too many costly problems i sold it and bought a very reliable nissan.
now i'm in the market for another car, a used one. and i keep seeing beetles and they're just so cute. i'd really like to get another one, but from what i've heard from other new beetle owners they have lots of problems as well...so it wasn't just the one i had.

i was wondering if there's a particular year/style that wasn't so bad for the new beetle. i'm a student and i can handle normal upkeep costs but i cannot afford to replace lights, o2 sensors, windows and gas release switches every few months. not to mention whatever it was that kept turning my check engine light on.

any input/advice/experience would be great.

I own a 2002 NB turbo S. And I love it havent had any problems with this vehicle yet to date. It is a super fun car with a 6 speed manual. And its pretty quick with exceptional handling. It is THE top of the line beetle the only available option for this car is the 6 cd changer...which i do have. It has heated leather seats, ebs, side airbags, a premium sound system. If you are looking for a nb and what to get the full bang for your buck look for one of these...they are a bit tought to find tho.

I had a 2001 new beetle, i never had a single problem with it, it was an amazing car. The only maintenance I had done was regular oil changes. I just sold it a couple months ago, and up to the day I sold it i still had no problems! It was a very reliable car for me. I now have a 2007 new beetle convertible. and have also not had any problems with this beetle either. I think Volkswagen's in general are great cars. As long as I drive, I plan to purchase only Volkswagen's.

The windows regulators were a recall on your 2000 NB, I hope you didn't pay for that. Anyways , Volkswagen is a great car company. If you check out consumer reports car issue, you will find Volkswagen's are good cars, but require more repairs then avg. I love to drive VW's, but I hate the repairs. 1 tip when buying a VW is to look at the VIN#, your looking for the first three digits to be (WVW) that mean it was made in Germany. I'm told it's a better quality car then ones made in Brazil, or Mexico.

Well usually VW are reliable cars with good quality. Like all others, they might have some problems but VW dealers should solve them, often for free. Try buying a newer model, the second and third year of production of any given car are usually much better than the first series.
