I wish I were mechanical. I have a VW Super Beetle. It has a rebuilt engine that runs good. The problem is that whenever I'm not pushing on the gas the car stalls. The used to happen when I first started the car up and it needed to warm up. Now it happens even after the car has been running 10 minutes or more. It's got to be something else.

Is there a good website where I can go to get step by step instructions on fixing it?

Thanks

Could be a number of things... but luckily it's something that you can probably fix yourself.

I bought a '72 super beetle and a week later, my grandfather got me the book. "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" by John Muir. It's awesome and actually fun to read. I fixed lots of things in my old bug. Those things are great "tinker toys".

get the book by muir. how to keep your vw alive. 25 bucks or so for the book. has saved me hundreds of dollars (and let me feel like i knew how to work on a car) in the last 2 months. tells you how to do damn near everything, and is written in english, as well, not in 'engineer' or 'car guy' language

like everyone else has said, could be a number of things: idle adjustment, auto choke, clogged air filter, vacuum leak

someone suggested "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" you also might look at "Zen and the Art of Volkswagen Repair"

for a website, check out www.thesamba.com or www.vwvortex.com

no site I know of. Sounds like the carb linkages right on the carb need cleaning off. Spray the linkages right to the carb with Brake Clean to get any varnish. and other crud. That may mean taking off the aircleaner. Things should work freely.

Could be a loose condensor, vacuum leak, plugged air cleaner, plugged fuel filter ,improper point gap,or improperly adjusted carburetor.Could be caused by to low alternator out put at idle.Check voltage to be 12.5 or higher.

sounds like a plugged up fuel filter... does it stutter when u hit the accelerator peddle as well? u can check easy enough... remove it and u should be able to blow (in the direction of fuel flow) through the filter like blowing through a straw...

I'd try idling it up a bit and if that doesn't work, try the spark plugs and/or wires. Let me know if that helps.
