a better question is, why should you care?
getting hung up on the gender appropriateness of a car is a bit silly...
that said, my grandfather had a vw and i wouldn't call him girly.

Most cars are designed to attract women as they make up the majority of the car buyer's market. Pretty to look at and easy to handle. Just look at some commercials to see the trend. The first H2 commercial had a woman behind the wheel (???), the first WRX also, Legacy gt, Mitsubishi anything, etc. Then they appeal to the men by adding bigger engines and pointing out the inherent girl attracting factor (a dude will buy the ugliest car as long as it shredded asphalt while trying to park). Smooth curvy lines, big windows to be seen in, bright color combinations, crisp airy interior that's easy to keep clean, a Jetta is a dollhouse on wheels man! My wife won't let me drive her VR6 but I gotta fix it though, that's just wrong.

I just bought a 01 Jetta and at first I was kinda like you, I thought this might be thought of as a girls car but then when I drove it and saw how it holds the road and the amazing monsoon stereo and the sunroof and the leather, who really cares it's an amazing little car that has that nice classic little boxy european look, if you like it drive it, if a guy makes fun of another guy for driving a VW he's probably gay and trying to compensate for it and if a girl makes fun of a guy for driving a VW she's probably jealous b/c she drives a truck or something, just go with it, VW's are cool little cars, drive it like you stole it!

No,Only the Beetle!!
My name is James, parents bought me a VW passat for my first Car in 2003. I thought it was very girly AT FIRST! I think they drive awesome plus my pasat came with a Turbo! They are very safe compared to BMW 3 series which got a four star saftey rating for front and side! I have about 47,000 miles and i can tell you that this car has lived up every mile! Also the VW dealerships are very nice and they have awesome service!

While I have seen more women in volkswagens, and more advertisments geared towards women, as long as you dont have furry pink seats and a "Princess" tag hanging from the mirror, whos to really say if it's a guy or girl's car? If you buy one, it's YOUR CAR. And, right now, if it gets good m.p.g. and I believe they do, what does it matter?

Well if it's a ladies car, they are painted black, but if you want to be manly paint it yellow with pink polka dots and orange butterflies. You have to be really tough man to drive a car like that and not care what other people think. It's a girls car if a girl owns it, and a guys car if a guy owns it.
Blessings to you,
Daniel

the new beetle, yes. some consider the last gen jetta to be a girls car. but who cares, if you like a girl's car, then you like a girl's car. it's just who you are. for guys, i see v dubs as a metrosexual/yuppie car and as an alternative to ricers and more expensive German cars like Audi and BMW. VW has soft designs that many will consider girly. But that's because they're Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, large SUV, and/or truck fans.

NO CAR is made for a girl or a boy, If you like a vw then get it.
It doesn't mater what other people think of a car.
A car is a car, you drive it and will take you to your destination.

i have been teased that my car is a "girls car"...but i can tell you that the women i have dated have been totally into it. it has been called "cute" many times, but it's an absolute chick magnet.
what's really nice about it is when i pull up to someone with some sort of modified honda or something, watch them snicker at me for having a girls car, then all they get to see of my "girls car" is the tail lights as i waste them off the line.

It's a car. If you like it, drive it. The only thing worse than driving a "girls car" is worrying about what somebody thinks about you driving it.
