My cd charger in my 2000 Jetta VR6 has stopped working. I went to Best Buy and they told me if I put an aftermarket charger in my car that my alarm would stop working. Has anyone tried this or had this problem?

Search here at the vwvortex.com Jetta IV section for parts. People part cars out here all the time and may have a replacement for you for a decent price. I have bought many parts and never had an issue.

I would just upgrade to an Ipod with the appropriate car kit. The radio is integrated with
the vehicle convenience system and will register a fault if certain components don't respond after a query is sent. Best Buy just doesn't want to deal with the problems of installing a component that is not simple to integrate - they blew you off because they can't be bothered and would rather work on an easy car. Don't let anyone install a CD changer in your car unless it is a factory replacement, which is way too expensive. Besides, they don't like burned Cd's, which is why I suggest an ipod which makes a CD changer obsolete.

The cars computers communicate with each other through a network called a bus. If you change out the factory radio with an aftermarket radio it will cause severe communication issues and vehicle problems. I don't know why a cd changer would effect anything. I belive that they are mistaken

Huh? Adding an after-market CD changer to the factory radio (using an FM modulator) should have no effect on the car alarm whatsoever. In fact, replacing the factory radio would have no effect either. I suspect they're talking about the radio anti-theft code; if you remove or disconnect the radio, you need a 4-digit security code when reinstalling it, or it won't work. However, a Volkswagen dealer could help you in that event.
