my car voltage light comes up and the battery is not holding charge, could somone tell me how to check if its a loose contact, or a slippery "serpentine belt ?

i own a 1996 nissan maxima automatic n when i start my car it ok but when i put in reverse or in drive it shakes back n forth then when u c the rpm the needle goes to 1.5 to 1.0 then it goes to 0 then it shows 4 lights the brake light, battery light, oil light, n check engine light. n i already had changed my transmission 5 months ago. n when i wait for bout 15 to 30 minutes it is ok 4 the hole day.
