I'm looking to take pictures for a friend and she wants a setting near a dock, like with her legs hanging over the edge. We live in wayne county (detroit metro) but are willing to travel whereever. Does anyone know where and old dock is that we can use for the pictures. I just don't want boats around or people screwing up the shots. It doesn't have to be big just a little one.

Honda Jetski question...?
I am looking into purchasing a jetski. I found a honda turbo 2002 model and yamaha FX140 2003. I have been looking up info on both and found that the yamaha has low maintenance problems, but I can't find anything on the honda.. Do you know if the Honda is a good jet ski? and which would you purchase..

I want to buy 2 jet skis for my family. There is a car lot that has 2 1996 Seadoo GTX 3 seater jetski's with trailer for $6000. They both have less than 100 hours. Are these good jetski's? What tears up the most on them? They look to be in really good shape and each have covers, but what do I need to do to check them out to make sure they are not "repaired junk"? We are purchasing on a budjet. They seemed like a good deal, but I dont know how to tell what they are worth. Thanks in advance for all and any help!!!!

This weekend I am going out on a boat with a friend and her husband. Another guy might be there as well. I have seen their boat. It has no toilet. How can I preserve my modesty when nature calls?

I want to build my own commuter boat to commute 8 miles across the Otago Harbour in southern New Zealand. The only roughness I encounter there will be winds up to about 50km/h and a 1m-chop. Sailing and solar are probably not an option.

So far, I've been contemplating these concepts:

1. A 6m aluminium planing boat with an enclosed cabin and a Yanmar outboard diesel. I feel this may not be economical enough.

2. A 6m diesel launch with a 5HP inboard diesel. Perfect, except for the speed, which is probably less than 8 knots.

3. A 6m catamaran with a Yanmar diesel outboard.

4. A very narrow, 12m displacement boat with an inboard diesel of about 5HP.

Does anyone see any possibilities I may not have seen here yet?

Just wondering, if length defines the speed, couldn't I just try to build one really long boat and get it up to 20 knots without needing much more horsepower? Or does that linearity end somewhere?

Sorry, I'm a car designer and live by the sea. I know how to make cars, boats are a new thing to me, but I want to get into it.

And if so, why?
Would it make my catamaran even faster if it had four hulls instead of only two?

I am trying to build a very energy-efficient commuter boat, and I hope to make it fast, as well. Since I don't want to have to build a 100-foot boat to get decent hull speed with barely a few horsepower, I am hoping that an artificial extension of my hull length via the "catamaran trick", if there is such a thing, might work - and I wonder whether plopping in a few extra hulls would do it.

illness. I want one of my characters to decide to go on the circum nav with her friends even though she knows she might not finish. She needs to have a disease that won't disable her too much at least for a few months. Any suggestions?

Additional Details

This is fiction. The friends have been planning to sail around the world. One of them decides she has to drop out because she has this terminal condition. They convince her she will be happier if she spends her last months at sea. I'd like to base the story on some real experience if anyone knows of anyone who has undertaken a long voyage in spite of failing health.
