I'm not sure if it's the same but with an automobile there are 17 digits in your VIN and the 10th digit refers to the year. That letter or number tells you what year it is. There's a chart you can use to look it up. Just do a search online.

The last 2 digits of any boat VIN is the year of manufacture.
