Boats & Boating

[Selected]: All categories Cars & Transportation Boats & Boating

I've always loved the ocean, I dive and live right off the coast (Long Beach) and now it's time I get a first small boat that is trailable.

I'm a little torn between getting something like a Whaler or RIB inflatable or getting a small sailboat...

I'm looking to cruise around the harbor, looking for something inexpensive and something that can fit in my one car garage.
POSSIBLY taking a trip to Catalina on a nice day or even sleeping over night.. (the last two aren't as important)

Opinions? Recommendations? Boats??

I recently aquired a boat with a Johnson 1969 20hp motor and have no idea what the fuel mix ratio is. I want to be sure before I start it and there are no manuals that came with it. Is it 50:1?

Has anyone personally used the Freedom Boat Club membership? We are looking into becoming members, what is your experience. I know they have a website although it is not very informative concerning price and such. I don't want to waste my time with a hardsell timeshare scenario. Thoughts.

Noah built one. I'd like to do the same. A variation, I like to call the sailboat. I'm not looking for something out of a Polo advertisement, just a working sailboat that i can sit on and use. Let's get creative! Smart, and creative. Thanks!

I was watching a BBC mini series Three men In A Boat on Sunday (Australia). A white cabin cruiser around 30 ft was briefly featured. I'm trying to identify this boat. Here some details:
I have no idea what episode it was. I only saw 15 minutes, however it was the episode where there was a fireworks display at a castle. Just before the powerboat was featured, one of the cast went fly fishing.
The boat was a white aft cabin cabin cruiser around 30-35ft. It looked like a production boat from the UK around the 70's 80's, but maybe newer. It was pretty much fully enclosed for the colder British climate and as far as I could see, it was inboard powered. Does any power boar enthusiast know the boat manufacturer or any other information? If you didn't see the show, please don't waste your valuable time guessing from the limited information I've supplied.

Sorry, I never recorded the show so I can't direct you to a photo.

Give me your favorite sea-faring chant, phrase, or saying. I heard one today that was interesting, "Put wind in my sails and I'll take the world!"

Make something up, if you want! I'm just interested to hear something from the prespective of a sailor, as, clearly, I am not.

Is it bad luck to change color of a sailboat? The boat is due for new bottom paint, but I wonder if there may be any "bad luck" associated with changing the color of the boat to something I like more.

I'm thinking a back-fire into the crankcase. It was quite a violent sound. I was trying to get onto a plane but the load was too far aft and we had been sitting on low revs for an extended time.
