I have been looking at new bass boats and it seems that the aluminum ones tend to be less expensive than the fiberglass ones.

For example, a 16 foot aluminum Bass Tracker with a 50 hp 2-stroke mercury was about $13K. While a 16 foot nitro with a 90 hp 2-stroke mercury was about 19K. I have heard that aluminum is lighter and so the HP on the motors can be lower while still giving enough power to get though the water.

What do you think are the advantages/disadvatages of aluminum vs fiberglass for bass boats?

Hi, I have a 9 foot "plastic" dinghy that I want to modify, specifically, add a winch for anchor, put in snap-in mounts for a swivel seat, and cleats. Is this possible to do?

I have a 1986 or 85 Mercury 90. I was out on the lake fishing, and we were going to stop for a while, and just explore the lake. We were running out at 30-40 miles per hour. The engine wouldnt run right. It can start, turn off, but then when you put in gear, it just idles. I cleaned the gas tank, and checked the plugs. Transmission is good. What is wrong? I dont want to take it to the boat center, any advice.

I let the boat sit for a month in a slip, it rained alot. Next time I drove it, I took off no problems, when I got to 40mph it couldnt go any faster, rpms were at 4500. The boat did not over heat and oil pressure was good. Engine did not seem to be missing, sounded good, just couldnt go any faster, usually I can go 62-67mph @ 5000rpms. Another problems is and I dont know if this is related but when I try and start it, it doesnt always start, like a loose conection, all I hear is the fuel injection and then turn the key and nothing, It is in neutral, and eventually after 2,3,4,5, or more times it will eventually just start. This has been doing this for years so Im use to that but it seems its getting worse or taking more times to get it to connect.

I saw a weird boat on the Maumee River in Toledo, OH. It was orange and fairly small or stubby. The top above the waterline was mostly curved like an elongated bubble. It has a ledge near the water line. It was about 18 -25 feet long. There was no open area for seating, etc. Any idea what it was?

My friend and I have been professional poker players for a few years. We decided we should get a mid sized yacht and sail around the world. This would work out great if we could get set up with realtime internet access so we could play poker online. I've looked around a bit but it doesnt seem like this is an option. They have satellites plans that let u do email and send OR recieve data but not really both. I dont need fast internet, just constant realtime 2-way internet!

I know that boats do have gearboxes that change the gear ratio, but how come they don't have transmissions with more than one gear. i assume that you don't need a transmission because there isn't alot of resistance for the propeller to turn unlike rolling resistance that you get in a car, but i would think that multiple gears would be helpful in raising the rpms of the prop and lower the engine rpm while already moving in the water. also if you know of any where to learn more about marine mechanics please let me know. thank you

it has the Mercruiser 260HP v8 motor (gm350 i believe?)... The other day we took it out and Weird things happened... 1st when we were cruising the RPM gauge started dancing up and down for a couple seconds? THen later on while on the way back home while cruising Everything just shut off (motor, power, etc.) and the motor wouldnt start or turn (as if all power was Off)...we glanced over a few things like batteries, and switches/fuses but didnt adjust/replace Anything,,,,And a few minutes later it started up again and got us home?
What can my problem be?
Maybe old existing gas, mixed with the new 20gals i put in that day?, Maybe electrical? Please Help

I have a 1984 75 HP Mercury outboard motor, it runs good when it’s out of the water, BUT when there is a load behind it, in the water is bogs down and dies. I’ve had the carbs rebuilt, fuel lines replaced, fuel tanks cleaned, filters added, stator replaced and the certified mercury mechanic spent 5 hours trouble shooting Saturday and can’t find the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?
