I've always had an interest to learn how to sail. I'm 33 catch on quick and very enthusiastic when I get into something. It's a life long dream to learn how to sail. How long does it take to master? How long before I feel comfortable to rent a boat and sail the open waters say off of British Columbia..whale watching and island hopping?

SUBMARINE
A ship sails. Does a submarine sail? I’m quite sure that the submarine doesn’t swim. Does it simply go?

DRIVING
A navigator doesn’t drive the boat. He ___ the boat (to move it from place to place). What about a submarine?

If you know some of these, please tell me!

I have a 25 hp 1984 johnson. the prop has no thrust washer. the prop attaches through a 13 spline shaft with a nut and cotter pin. No when i spin the nut on the hole in the nut must line up with the shaft hole. It allows a 180 Degree turns only. Now if the nut and shaft dont line up is it better to loosen or tighten to get the cotter pin through?

I wanted to measure my boat. I was told two different ways. to measure. The first is to measure it from the point in front to the end of the back seat, someone else told me to measure to the end of the outboard motor. How can I get an actual footage? Can anyone help?

I took the power head off and I see the linkage but I'm still at a loss on how to get the lower unit off. Its a jbend (the actual rod that runs down the exhaust housing) shifter linkage that I don't believe will make it all the way down the housing....man its a lot of work just to replace a little starfish.....

I have a 1990 Sprint Bass boat with a 1990 Mercury 115 hp outboard. I bought it a couple of months ago. The voltometer always reads high (14v) and gets higher when the motor is running (16v). My dept finder also gives me a high voltage warning.

All of the electonic (starter, guages, lights, bilge, aerator, trim motor) are wired to the starting battery. The trolling motor runs off of it's own battey.

Any idea what could be causing this? Bad battery, wiring?

Please give me ideas of what I can check.

any idea where I can get plans/blueprints to make another. Grandpa has died and no one knows what he did with those old plans. It was made out of 1/4 inch plywood and could hold a 25 hp motor and only 1 person.

I just got a fuel pump rebuild kit for my 45 HP Mariner, should I use any type of gasket sealant on it or just gaskets bare against the metal? The body of the pump is smooth, no corrosion or pits.
Thanx

Engine starts right up but as soon as fired up slowly runs down and stops. Will prime again and restarts easly but stalls again. Will not continue to run no matter what. Unable to keep running even if increasing throttle. Replaced fuel pump diaphragm with no results. Seems to run down quicker than using up the fuel in the bowl.

I mean, cars have gears and gearboxes to increase speed by utilising the revolutions made by the motor and transfering that to the wheels. But boats just seem to have a single forward and reverse gear. Wouldn't the boat move faster if, like a car, it progressed through a range of gears?
