I wanted to measure my boat. I was told two different ways. to measure. The first is to measure it from the point in front to the end of the back seat, someone else told me to measure to the end of the outboard motor. How can I get an actual footage? Can anyone help?

Thanks for the answers. I should have stated that I'm very inexperienced with boats and dont know anything about them, except how to drive them. This boat belonged to my brother in law that passed away a few years ago. I dont have the title (yet) or dont even know what kind of boat it is(do know that it is a flat bottom). Its an older boat that has a Johnson 50hp motor on it. Im going to sell it once I get all the paperwork on it, figure someone that knows about boats can appreciate it more than I. Thanks again.

Depends on the boat the new 1s with European transom are measured from where the engines mount including the platform> The older 1s from the transom> To the point of the bow>Threw the center> Should match the title>

I would say that you measure from the point to the transom. The motor is not really part of the boat. That should give you the correct measurement. Or you could look up the registration numbers or if you have the title.

Should be measured from the very tip of the bow to the rear transom. All new boats sold nowadays include the swim platform as well as marinas requesting lenght for a slip.

The correct way is to hang a plumb bob from the foremost part of the bow to the ground and one from the aftermost part of the stern(transom) and measure between them. Hope this helps

As one gentleman said, tip of bow to end of stern is the length of your vessel. The outboard is not part of the boat. This overall length is different from the length at waterline, as suggested by someone else.
