I recently sold some shares of stock granted to me when my company came out of bankruptcy. I didn't sell all my shares. I know the initial income in the Ch. 11 emergence will be reported on my W-2 as income, but the total loss in selling the shares was around $230 (I think $223.31 w/o checking the website for sure).

Is this loss reported separately from itemized or standard deductions--basically my refund amount will go up by $230 or a fraction thereof based on tax percentages--or will the reporting be buried so to speak in the Q&A on my software package I use in determining if it's better to take the standard deduction or itemize?

Does a person who dies in November, 2005, have to file taxes for that year?

More info:
The person was disabled, not working, had no income aside from social security, and hadn't filed taxes since they stopped working. Are they, or the Executor of the Estate, supposed to file taxes?

As the Executrix, I followed all the requirements that the court gave me but I never saw anything about filing taxes.

My hubby is in the high income bracket and has to pay 40% tax on any amount over the limit. It sucks! What is the point of having a high income when you end up with a pretty regular one after tax? He said in America tax isn't so high for high income workers, is this true?

here's the deal - I am married have 2 kids in college and 1 in high school. Each year we pay taxes because my husband makes pretty good money. - i am claiming 0 dependents at my very low paying job - my employer is starting a new retirement program where they will match up to 4% of my contributions. should I claim 2 dependents and sock the difference away in this retirement because it's pretax? and will i still end up paying taxes and maybe even more since i will be claiming 2 rather than the 0 I am claiming now??

I am moving to Brazil to go to work for the next 18 months to 2 years. I believe if you are out of the country for so many days and do not return you do not have to pay taxes on your money.

I've always thought that receiving a refund meant my tax professionals were giving me good tax advice. I just found out from a relative who is a tax pro that I'm NOT getting good service just by always getting a refund from my tax returns. Why is this the case and what should I do to fix it?

I had recently come from the U.K and did not know much about tax filing in the US . My husband owned his own business on his social security. He was an upright citizen who always paid his taxes. That is until he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Whilst struggling with the disease for 2 years he accumalated tax debt amounting to $22000.00 which i was unaware of until he passed away. Whil'st I was married to him I did not work and was a housewife. I have been financially struggling to meet the basic needs of my daughters and myself ever since his death. I worked over the last 3 years and made a small salary of $23,000.00 which barely covers all the expenses. Our family home has been threatened with fore closure twice. I would like to appeal to the IRS to return any money that i am entitled to. Does anybody have any experience of applying for innocent spouse status. What kind of cover letter should i send with my form. I cannot afford an attorney and would appreciate any help. Thanx
