Hmm, a valid social security NUMBER would not have any letters in it, just numbers.
You don't want to use the "s.s. number" assigned by the school. Get your real social security from your parents, they would have applied for you.

A SSN will never begin with an alpha. SSN's are always 9 digits long and are NEVER NEVER NEVER reassigned when someone dies. Once a number is assigned to you, that number is yours forever. This is important because your earnings from your work are reported to us via your SSN. This is how you receive credit towards retirement or disability benefits.
Do you have a card showing this? The best approach to this situation is to carry the card to your nearest Social Security office. We have employees in every branch office that can examine the card to determine if it is valid.
You can locate your nearest office by visiting the website at www.socialsecurity.gov or call 1-800-772-1213.

Where did you get the card? If you think it came from the social security office, I'd call them, since no, that's not a normal ss#.
If you got it from your school, it might just be a number the school assigns to people without social security numbers so the school can keep track of your records. They might put in in a box labeled "social security number" on their paperwork because they are using it as a substitute, but it's not a social security number, and you couldn't use it outside of the school records.

I don't think it was your S.S. number because Social Security numbers begin with a number and end with one.

no it shouldn't start with an S. it should be 123-45-6789. the first few numbers tell what area of the US you're in. the others are recycled over and over as people die
