Apply, and see what happens. The settlement probably won't affect the decision.

You have to be totally broke to recieve benifits from SSI/DI. Trying to get it takes almost an act of the good lord. Unless you earned a lot of money and are perminantly disabled for life don't count on to much money. They start you at about $490.00 in social security and $38.00 in disability. This is not enough to live on in most places, I know personally as I recieve benefits. By the end of the third week I run out of food, my state only gives $10.00 in food stamps so I don't bother with that. I also have supplemental medicaid benefits but no doctors will take it because they don't get paid. If there is any way you can find another form of employment take that option. It's a harsh reality when the landlord raises your rent, and you don't have enough money coming in to rent elsewhere. I'm being told to leave in thirty days because she wants to raise the rent. I want to return to work but they refuse to enter me in their program. Maybe it is meant for me to be homeless, with early Alzheimers.
