First: please only post an answer if you know what you're talking about! Thanks!

Question: I have a Roth IRA that was opened in 1998 with an initial investment of $2000. I have not contributed or done anything with it since and it is now $6717. Due to a personal financial crisis that will not resolve itself any other way, I am seriously considering closing my Roth IRA. I'm in my 30's and my distribution would not qualify for any of the exemptions provided by the IRS. I know that I face a 10% penalty as well as taxes.

How much would I actually get of the $6700 if I close the account, and do I pay the 10% penalty fee & taxes on the distribution upfront or at tax time?

I'm only considering this drastic option because: 1) I really need the money, and 2) I have a 401K building at work...so there is some retirement planning already.

Thanks in advance!

1) No, I'm not a tax protester.
2) Yes I'm asking because of information I've heard from a tax protester.
3) No, Title 26 does not specify that YOU have to pay an income tax, nor is the IRS tax CODE a LAW.
4) The 16th Ammendment was never ratified.

and

5) What do you think about the film, America Freedom to Fascism where numerous IRS agents, tax lawyers, and congressmen have come out and said "There is no law that you have to pay INCOME tax". If you haven't seen it, I highly encourage you to watch it and get back to me on it.

My parents gifted me $24,000 ($12,000 / each) to help me buy my first house. I recently sold the house after just over a year of ownership because plans in my life have changed. My parents are asking for the money back since I no longer have the house. Because the money was provided as a tax free gift can I just give it right back with no tax issues? What would be the tax requirements if any?

Are IRAs included in the value of my estate for calcuating estate tax, if the beneficaries were my kids. Would it be different if it were rolled over to my spouse's IRA. I realize they would be taxed when they make the required withrawals each year.

I just graduated college and I'm looking into establishing a freelance graphic design business on the side (weekends) of my career position. What am I able to deduct on taxes? (Computer hardware, software, portion of the rent, internet expenses, etc.) I'm mostly curious about deducting a portion of my rent, so it would be helpful to know if that's possible. Thanks in advance!

I read that taxes are going to be imposed by this fall on internet shopping, new monthly taxes on DSL and other connections. One senator is even predicting taxes on e-mail.

Bought a new car in Nevada. I live in California. Was told by dealer that the new law which allows for the sales tax to be calculated based on taxable sales price minus the trade in allowance multiplied by 7.75%would apply to California due to a reciprocal agreement. In my situation taxable sales price was 29,500 with trade in being 20,290. That would put my sales tax at 718.00 based on the new taxable amount of a little more than 9,000. California is saying that I must pay tax based on total taxable sales price. No trade in allowance. This is after the dealer in Nevada said that the new law would apply in Cali due to reciprocity. Cannot register auto until this is resolved. Refuse to pay over 1,600 more in sales tax when Nevada stated that I should just be liable for the difference between the two tax rates-8.25(CA) and 7.75(NV). Apprx 46.00 owed in difference.

I could probably resolve my tax problems with a quick easy phone call to a human being. So far all the numbers and web info they provide only leads to more computers and recordings :-(

HELP! I need human intervention!
