Let's say that a person was having trouble (i.e. a mental health issue, suicidal depression) when she was supposed to be filing for income taxes this year and therefor didn't get around to it. How does she go about resolving this now that she's mentally able to deal with the consequences?

We just got this year's assessment and our $67,000 assessment of last year just went up to almost $80,000. We are planning to sell within the next year. Does this mean the property is now worth $10,000 more?

I'm a contract worker and make about $20,000 a year, a tax person said i should pay about $1000-$1,200 4 times a year for taxes. I was just wondering, do I write off business expenses when I pay taxes 4 times a year or do I figure that out at the end of the year with receipts. My parents think that i do it at the end of the year, but I just want to make sure.

I have a question about my tax exemption status.
Hi. I am 21 years old and I am a full time student, my parents still claim me as a dependent.
For the summer I'll be interning at a company. I've always heard that if you make less than $8,000 per year, you don't have to pay Federal income tax. Is that true?
What if I make more than $8,000 a year, but less than $12,000, do I still qualify for exemption status?

Thanks for any help!

My corporation sold its building located in NYC. I am taking those funds and investing in a1031 exchange. Most likely a NNN property. I need to form a new company and move it out of NYC to avoid the city tax on the income of my new investment. It's my understanding I can tranfer assets from one company to another and avoid the transfer tax provided I follow certain criteria. Is anyone aware of the ins & outs of this process?

If your spouse filed his tax return as single, but you were married one day before the end of the year, can you get in trouble by the IRS if you file single as well? My tax refund was returned to the IRS and I filed single, but I am now married and I don't know how to fix it. My post office won't accept it in my maiden name and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I have been residing in the US (Chicago, IL) for two years (as a legal student) and am the owner of my apartment. I am considering renting it and then selling it after I leave the country and become a fiscal resident of Brazil. Will I be liable for income tax (in the US) on the rent that I'll be receiving (for my US apartment) ? What about capital gain tax when I eventually sell the apartment?

If you knew you could save all of your gasoline receipts during the previous year and present a valid drivers license to the federal government at tax time. Wouldn''t it be nice to claim your gas consumption on your federal taxes and get decent refund for your money that you paid out in gas.

If you answered yes. Then call, write or e-mail your federal elected officials or go directly to their office and tell them you want a gasoline tax credit now. Oil companies are making big bucks. Why can't we make our bucks too ?
