I know a person who won $50.00 gift card from Visa/Eprize. Visa/Eprize said they would send you a 1099 at the end of the year. However, I know Visa/Eprize is wrong in sending the 1099 to the irs for $50.00 Prize over $599 are to have a 1099. So what form do I need to tell her to get to correct the error on visa/eprize part. This person did not provide a SS# or tax id# to VISA/Eprize. She is thinking of sending the prize back and refusing it. Thank you for any advice.

I wasn't sure whether the property would be my primary or an investment when I signed the purchase contract although it states it was to be my primary resd. (new construcution home and had time to decide occupancy and whether to sell my current primary if I wanted to). The property was finished sooner than expected and I no longer qualified to own both and was denied by the mortgage lender but was unable to get my earnest back from the builder. It is a huge loss...can I deduct this?

Her parents claim her as a dependent on their tax return. I either paid the college direct or gave her the money to put in her account to pay the college. I also bought her books and gave her spending money. Can I deduct any of this on my tax return? Please advise any publications or instructions that would help me. Thanks

How much $ is taxed on winnings if you hit the jackpot for $1 million and up? I heard that it could be anywhere from 30% and up. I remember a woman who lives in Michigan hit the jackpot for $75 million on November 14 and she was double taxed. After taxes, she took home about $30 million which is about 40% of the jackpot winnings. Why was she double taxed and is this fair? How is this determined?

I used Completetax.com to file my state and federal returns, and I haven't received an answer, it says still processing. I have emailed their customer support, and did their on-line chat, still no response and the return is still depending?? I've paid for on-line filing. Should I be afraid of identify theft?

Does anyone have a preference when it comes to filing on-line? Should I use turbo tax or H&R Block? I have never filed on-line or used any of this software. Is it easy to follow and accurate? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I was a full-time college student in 2006 until the month of August. When I graduated, I jumped right into a full-time position and I will make more than my parents do annually. Would I be able to claim myself because they didn't? That way I can also use my 1098T because they had no taxes to reduce. How do I know if my parents CAN claim me as a dependent but just didn't? This is confusing because the IRS.gov site states that if your parents can claim you but didn't, you still can't claim your own exemption.
