I have a rental property and stock option. Do I have to buy Primier version or is deluxe good enough?

To the question:

I used the Deluxe version this year, like most years. I don't think it asked the kind of questions re: rental property that the Premiere version can ferret out.

You could do a walkthrough using either Deluxe or Premiere, knowing that your info can't be transferred from one version to the other. You only pay when you decide the info is ready to file anyway.

A CPA or Enrolled Agent is better value for money. With those two items alone, it is worth every dime in fees. The small CPA firm I work for has gained more business from ex-TurboTax (or similar) users in the last year than from any other source.

I did my taxes online this year as my employer doesn't do electronic filing (lots of old-money people who don't trust computers) and I found it scary how much these supposedly idiot-proof programs expect the layman to know. The service I used was $700 out on the state and $950 on the federal - both times in favor of the IRS. That money is paying for a five-star hotel rather than a two-star when I take my wife on vacation in Scotland after tax season.
