Recently, I got a lump of 90 hrs of OT payed. Due to an input error...It was over time from 3 bi monthly pay periods. Did I get taxed more for the one time, 90 hr OT payment, Than I would have if it was split up in 3 paychecks? As it was supposed to be payed.

If you made less than $1200 in self employed income, can you pay these quarterly and do it online? I just don't think I will have enough money to pay them all at once.

I had a HUGE issue with Jackson Hewitt. They didn't file my injured spouse form and I lost $4,000. I had to go to the IRS myself to get the correct forms! Anyone else have a bad situation and what did you do about it?

We have a 21 year old son who has worked full time for a year, but only makes enough to pay for his car, car insurance, and health insurance. The tax preparers say he can no longer be counted as a dependant, but he is still at home and we are still paying for what I believe about half of his expenses. Are they right? Once you are able to file taxes, you can't be counted as a dependant?

I have a full time job, but i'm about to start a propriatery investment by the side. The invesment does not file any 1099-B with either me or the IRS. However, i've consulted a good accountant and he said i should file quarterly to the IRS using Turbo tax. My question is does this by any chance affect my full time job.(I'm fully employed through W2). I intend to treat this as an separate entity from my full time job. does IRS produce a yearly statement that i can use for my end of the year tax filing. Please advise.

Thanks
JI

I accidently sent my federal tax return to the same place I sent my state return. I obviously don't have my federal W2 attachment because I already sent it to the wrong place. Does anyone know what to do when this happens?

It's just my husband and I. We claim 0 dependents through out the year. At the end of the year can we claim each other on our taxes? We file married filing together. Also do we file for head of household? I have always claimed 0 dependents at the end of year and have not filed head of household. People have told me to file 2 dependents, each other, and file head of household. Then we would get back more taxes at the end of year. Any help would be great.

The Fair Tax is being promoted by John Linder and Neil Boortz. Boortz wrote a book called the Fair Tax Book. The Fair Tax will replace the Federal Income Tax. It's a national sales tax. All goods and services will be taxed at 25 to 30 percent. People living below the poverty level will receive a monthly refund check if they have paid too much in taxes. The Fair Tax will eliminate all the red tape involved with filing taxes because no one will have to file their income taxes. Americans won't have to worry about audits. They will simply pay a higher sales tax.

I am asking this question on behalf of a cousin. My cousin's parents do not work, can he claim them as a dependent? Also he is a very young guy, he is only 23. Does his age prohibit him from claiming his parents as a dependent?

Do I claim the actual out of pocket expenses or the actual debt accrued? We have medical expenses from last year that we are currently making payments to the hospital on. Does anyone know what total I put for medical expenses? Would it be the amount paid so far or the total amount for the services?

I never filed my states taxes for 2005 (I live in Montana). So I know I should get a nice return if I can file them. I already filed my state and federal taxes from 2006 and got my return. Can I still file my state taxes for the year 2005 even though I already filed for a return for my 2006 taxes?

Specifically, I'm interested in the percentage taken out. This includes Federal Income Tax, any State taxes removed from a paycheck, and Social Security. Remember, this is for a resident of Missouri.

I am using this for some personal budgeting models, specifically for determining when I am financially able to get married. Any sources to back up any answers would be most appreciated. Thank you all and God bless!

I tried to file my federal taxes online today and everything was going good until near the end when i tried to submit some final info. Then this screen showing Internet Explorer said I can't go further. It recommended trying to refresh the screen or adjusting the security settings on my browser. I tried both and did not work. The site I used was extaxreturn.com
Should I just mail my returns or is there another site without these problems?
