I am currently making monthly payments to the IRS and have roughly 12 month left. This year I am actually due a refund for my State taxes (California), will the IRS intercept the refund?

Call Financial Management Services to find out if there is an Offset under your SS#. This is the agency that directs the IRS to hold back refunds for Federal and State debts.

As long as you have a formal payment plan with the IRS and are current on your payments, they should leave your state refund alone.

If they intend to grab your state refund, you should receive an Intent to Levy notice form the IRS.

If you were sent an Intent to Levy letter before you started paying, then the IRS will probably take your refund.

They have to notify you if they are taking the refund. Call your representative and ask them.

As long as you are making your payments on time and as agreed to, you should still get your state refund.
