my ex boyfriend got a letter from the IRS stating that they are reviewing him and he has to pass 9 tests so that they can give him the money that has been withheld. He has a child with a married woman and decided to claim her. The problem is that he doesn't appear on the birth certificate or anything as the father. He hasn't even given the mother any money to help out. To make things worse the husband doesn;t know. Out of all the test's he has to pass he only can pass one. Will the IRS penalize him for putting a wrong statement. will his taxes be reviewed again... Does anyone have any suggestions to what he can do?????

My husband filed for a tax id number last year and got one. However, he never did anything with it and someone told him he needed to file a tax return and write "no activity" on the form. We think we are to file a 1099 form, but according to http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=129520,00.html we are confused as to what we are to do. Help!

I am out of the country and I may have to do my taxes when I come back or wait until next year to do them I know there are penalties. The most embarassing thing is that I don't have my W'2's. Does anyone know if you can request them from the state instead of your employer. They will give me a real bad attitude.

Thanks

We are a Women's group in our church that wants to open a bank account to keep funds separate from the church's accounts. We would like to apply for our own tax exempt number (which the bank is requiring). I am not sure where to start. As it stands now we have to go to the board to get approval to cut a check. An example where this is inconvenient is when we make blankets for the veterens or the senior citizen home we shop a several places to get the best price on fabric. It wastes money to have to wait for several checks.

Hi, I got married last year and am not sure to claim 1 or 2 allowances on the w-4, my wife works as well. I am tempted to claim 2 so I can have less taxes withheld from my paycheck but then I heard talk of a penalty when you have not enough taxes withheld from your paycheck. Is that true? Would I be at risk if I decide to increase my allowance to 2? Was hoping to get more from my paycheck for interest purposes and then just pay what I owe each year during tax filing. Thanks!

I e-filed and received taxes back. Then i filed an amended return because i forgot to add a W2. When i am checking the status of the return and they ask for the refund amount, are they asking just the expected amended amount, or total from original as well.

I used an online service to file my Federal and two state tax returns (I moved halfway through the year). I know on the federal, you have to claim your state return, but I thought that on the state, you were supposed to claim any federal return you got last year, but it never asked me for it. Should I be worried?

We are behind a few months on council tax - we don't qualify for any discounts even though my wife is on Incapacity Benefit and I have a low-income part time job and we have two children under the age of 3.
We make payments when we can, and as much as we can, but they don't give a crap.

Some debt collection company has sent us a letter saying they will come round and take things even in our absence. Is this legal?

The main tax return form has place only for the total figures of capital gains and income from other sources.
Is there a format to report details of income like capital gains and bank interest etc ?
For example my capital gains could span a large number of transactions and my income from other sources could include interest from different banks.
What level of detail is required ?

My wife worked for most of the year trying to start her own business. She was paid mostly in cash, but kept records of everything. After we totaled everything up, her start-up expenses were more than her income so she actually never "made" any money, ie. profitable income. Does she have to report all this or what should she do?

One of my friend is on F-1 visa & her employer witheld Social Security & Medicare tax in error. She already left that job. I have a question, while claiming for the refund from IRS, she need to attach a letter from her ex-employer stating refusal of refunding taxes. What should be the reason for refusal by employer? Is there any particular formate for the letter? Does the letter have to be on Company's letter head?
