My brother died in October. I know that I have to file his last tax return because he had income. We do not have the medical bills $4,000 yet that he incurred so we haven't paid them but they are coming in 2007 instead of 2006. How do I report these medical bills - on his last tax return or if I pay in 2007 how do I report them if it occurs after I file his last tax return. He did not have enough to file a estate tax return nor did he have a will.

Thank you.

My brother died in October and did not have a will. The condo he had and mortgage was in his and my father's name. They bought it for $65,000. My father is still alive and we are selling the condo for $204,500 or less in the next tax year that he didn't die. What is my father's responsibility for the capital gains - half? What happens to my deceased brother's half? And how do I file this condo tax wise - on the estate tax return or my father's. He didn't have enough money for estate tax.

Also, my parents are getting my brother's Thrift Savings Plan (401k) proceeds. What are their resonsibilities tax wise on that?

In 2006, I took out a home equity loan and used the money for home improvements. **New insulation, siding, windows, & doors**. How much of this can I deduct on my taxes? Can I also claim the interest I paid on my home equity loan?

Tax Questions - Independant Contractor?
My bf was very briefly (Very.. like a month and a half) employed somewhere where the employer never asked for their social and never put them on official payroll. However, they would like to file what little income was received (less than $1200, can they just fill out a 1099 and send it in with the rest of their taxes? Is it that simple or is the employer required to do something? If the employer never filled out any forms for them, will they (the employer) be in trouble if the income is filed? Is it just silly to claim such a small amount of income? Better safe than sorry, I think.

I have been off and on employed (and a student) within 2006 and hit some rough times where my boyfriend would loan signifigant amounts of money to live off of or use for doctors visits. So, I 'm worried if the IRS sees this incoming money occasionally going into my bank account, will I need to account for it? Is there a section on the tax form for this?

I have a friend who is in the same situation I'm in: I have a 2 year old son and I've been with his father for 3 1/2 years, we're not married. My friend's boyfriend filed as "Head of Household" and claimed HER as a dependent and got more money. I am trying to do the same thing since I made under $3300 and he supported me and my son so I could be a stay at home mom. At turbotax.com, why are they telling me I need to be in school or disabled in order for my boyfriend to get more money? Why did this work for my friend and not us, when we're in the same situation??

Finally, HOW can we get the absolute most money from filling the info out on turbotax.com?? Any advice?? Please e mail me if you need to go into detail or have anything to tell me, or just say it all here. Mattysmommy2004@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I went from living in Idaho all of my life to moving to Utah for a few months, and ended up moving back to Idaho, all in 2006. My husband & I had jobs in both states. What is this going to do to my taxes? How do I file the Utah taxes? Is there a way I can get the W2 forms from Utah sent to me in Idaho ( I didn't leave a forwarding addy because I was staying with friends)? Oh! And we claim one child. Thank you in advance for any and all help you can give!

I have a 13-month-old daughter, and this is the first year that I will be claiming her on my taxes. However, I am a full-time student and my only income is from work-study. I earned a grand-total of $1608.42. I put my preliminary info into one of those tax refund websites, and it says I"m eligable for the EIC, but what about the child tax credit? Is there a reason why I would not be able to get that, too? I do not have my W2 yet, so I can't officially file, yet, but I would like to know why I can get the EIC but not the CTC. If anyone has any insight, please share it with me!
Thanks!
