You would have to itemize yor deductions in order to deduct medical expenses. To get any tax benefit on medical deductions the total amount paid would have to exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income for the year.

If you itemize, you can deduct as medical expenses dental work and hospital bills that were not reimbursed. You can only report the bills that were actually paid in the tax year. You can only take the portion of your medical expenses that exceeds 7.5% of your income.

Your medical/dental expenses for the year must exceed a certain percentage of your AGI (adjusted gross income). IF your annual expenses are over that limit and you are itemizing your deductions, you can use them. If I remember correctly, it breaks down by doctors/dentists, hospital/clinic, and prescriptions.
