Mortgage interest credit certificate number??

When entering mortgage interest while filing my taxes, it is asking me for the mortgage credit certificate number. What is this??

You are entering it in the wrong place.

Unless you live in DC, you do not qualify for the credit.

For the rest of us, mortgage interest is an itemized deduction on Schedule A..........not a credit.
