he left a woman named elaine as the custodial guardian, technically/legally it wuldnt be mine until im 21, but since he wished for it to be mine at 18, elaine cashed it and sent me a check for $10,000 around my birthday, but heres the thing-i knew me grandfather had left me money when i was 18. but i didnt know it was stock, and didnt realize that i needed to claim it on my taxes.
from my understanding and how she worded it, it was my inheritence, well, when i filed with h&r block, i didnt mention it because i didnt think anything of it. i wasnt even aware it was stock put under my name and social number.now 2 years later the IRS sends me a letter saying i owe $1,600 in taxes because my 05 return doesnt match what was reported....
shuld i be faulted that no one ever told me exactly where the money came from? shouldnt elaine or at least the stock company had an obligation to inform me?i wuld have saved some money from the 10,000 2 cover taxes if i ahd known, now im stuck.what can i do?

My husband & I got married in 2004 but were told by someone that it did not matter if he claimed me since I have no income. I am basically a homemaker since I am not employed. And since we have no children, I help my husband & his family with their business. Because the business they own is corporate, their 2005 tax filing has been extended and still under process right now. I was NOT claimed on my husband's 2004 tax returns but does it really matter?

My business is a general partnership and I'm TRYING to fill out form 1065. We donated about 75% of our income to our church. Where can we put this on our tax form?? On the Schedule K, line 13a? Or on the first page, line 20. Or both? HELP! Nothing I read makes sense

Within the next couple of months I will be receiving some extra money. I have a bonus at the end of february and taxes as well. What would be the best way to spend roughly $1,800 ? I want to see if there is a way that I can double that money . Somehow . Any suggestions on how to make money with a little bit of money?

I am trying to figure out what makes better sense. I claim 1 dependent, myself, and wonder if I should claim two as head of household, martgage or something else. I enjoy getting a return but don't want to give the government extra money by having so much taken out of my check. I certainly don't want to owe. I file long and include mortgage, property tax, donation etc. I usually get about 1,600. back from Fed. and 700. back from State.

Here's the opproximate figures:

Gross per month: 4,032.
Fed: 716.
State: 322.
OASDA: 280.
Medicare: 65.
Empl. Deductions: 82.
Take home about: 2,650.

Thanks for your time.

I am a US citizen living in Canada, married to a Canadian, and not working outside the home. I have interest and dividends from my US investments but am not sure what filing status to use when I file my taxes. I cannot file single, he is not a US citizen and we do not live in US so I can't file jointly, and if I file separately, it asks for spouse's name and SSN also - and he has no SSN. He claims me on his Canadian tax form. Any suggestions on this?
