I failed to pay taxes for years 2003, 2004. When I paid my taxes for 2005 on time (in Feb of 2006), I paid nearly 25K for backtaxes for years 2003 and 2004 including all penalties.

I am now doing my taxes for 2006, were my payments in Feb of 06 for backtaxes, of 03 and 04 , in any way deductible for 06?

Thanks,
Ryan

My boyfriend had some mexicans working for him doing roofing work through a company that paid my boyfriend directly. Then my boyfriend would pay the Mexicans. This year he recieved a bill for $80,000 from the Government saying that is what he paid that year, however, most was paid to the Mexicans. He never had them fill out a w-2 form, but he said he can still do that, and still have them fill them out, does he have anytime to do that, can he still do that since he already paid them last year and it is over and done with, to show he paid them, and did not make all the money himself?

Taxes are another topic but the tax breaks encourage spending in certain sectors of the economy. Would those entitled to tax beaks would want to give them up in the name of fairness?

Assume someone sells some captial asset and realizes a short-term capital gain on 1/1/07 while living in a state with an income/STCG tax rate of 10%. On 4/1/07, they establish residence in a no-tax state (e.g. Florida). Assuming they have no other income in that year, and ignoring all deductions, etc, how much state tax is due to the first state on this gain? The full 10% or a pro-rata rate based on the time this person spent in each of the states during the calendar 2007?

After so many years of getting a refund, I think I'm going to owe some money this year on my taxes.

Is there any instant penalties or charges in addition to the tax I owe that needs to be included in the payment?

We've been in our first house since Jan. I think that this year I should iteamize my taxes. I have always taken the standard deductions...which are not bad because I've got 3 kids(5 deductions total). 1) If my mortgage is approx $1,100/mo. and most of that going to interest...how much better off would I be to itemize? 2) What other things can I claim as deductions (to increase my refund)?

Thanks in advance for your help...Rob
