Greenspan before his new successor? (what's the name of the new guy again?)

Will I get a chance to go to court to fight the wage garnishment before it is put in place? I have been making payments on the bill and would even pay it off but I need to be sure this collections company will not continue to try to get more money from me. Every time I make a payment the amount owed is wrong I keep oweing more and now they sent me papers saying on the 20th the will be in court to garnish my wages. My employeer also reaceived notice . Is there still time to go to court and get out of this? The court date on the papers is that for me to appear I would like to.

I owe the Dept. of Education $3,700 from a student loan. I keep getting the calls from Allied Interstate regarding paying the loan, etc. They don't seem to understand that right now I have no income coming in since I just moved back from abroad to the USA with my wife and daughter and we are staying with my mother in her home. I am actively seeking a job and have had several interviews. Allied Interstate wants me to go work at McDonalds to pay. My wife gets about 100 dollars a week for us to buy food with, baby stuff, etc. I want to pay this debt off, but of course I cannot at the moment. If I were to offer to pay $20 dollars a month until I find employment and start paying a larger chunk...would they accept this? They have already threatened to garnish my wages as soon as my W-2 goes through from an employer and that it is going to litigation.

My spouce added my name to her credit cards as a co-signer and now she is filing bankruptcy. She is including the cards in the filing. If the debt is discharged will I still be responsible for the debt as a co-signer?

Not so sure if we're actually going to have to file for bankruptcy or not, but my husband and I have talked about it before. I know vaguely what it is, and vaguely what it will do, but I'm not clear on all the details. Anyone care to enlighten me?
