During my 48 years working life I paid Tax, N/ins, Graduated contributions, and Serps. This gives me a total state pension of £182 for my wife and I. If I had done none of the above I would get Pension Credit guaranteed £186 plus substantial help, often worth £75 per week for housing costs and council tax.Is that fair?

My wife and I are getting divorced and we are trying to sell the engagement ring. The ring is certified and we spent just under $5,000 on it. The jeweler we purchased the ring from will not buy it back. What is the best way to sell an engagement ring (no engravings) and get the most money in return?

I heard that they are no longer making that circulation of money and that is worth more than face value? It sounds kinda silly to me. does Anyone know if this is true or not?

My boyfriend and I went into the Alliance & Leicester earlier this week t open a joint bank account. He's already got an account with them; my current account is with another bank. We were taken through the whole application, but not once was I asked for any id...is this normal? I would have thought I'd have to give them passport, driving licence, proof of address etc, but I didn't!! This struck me as a bit odd....

Just wondered...When I make an online payment, the money leaves my account instantly. When I'm expecting a payment, the money takes up to 5 working days to appear in my account even though it has left the payers account. So are the banks unnecessarily holding on to the money (and earning interest on it)?

I am wondering if anyone knows of a site that you can enter all of your finances ..including the due dates and how much you make per week or month and it will tell you what to pay when and how much money to save or hold out each month..I just wonder about this because i sit down every month and say ok these are the bills and this is when we are going to pay them...just wondering if there was a easier way to do this to keep it online instead of handwritten in my planner. i am not interested in making a grid or anything like that myself...thanks

Serious answers only please. I was injured and as a result it has taken me awhile to accept this, continued to attempt to work making my health worse. Finally accepting the fact I've no choice but to go on disability, I'm not really able to afford to live in the apartment I rent. I've got some money put back and can put in w my monthly benefits to get by or I can try to break my lease and move into a more affordable apartment but it would not be in as nice of a neighborhood. Now I do know a lot of people in a neighborhood I could afford, but what about breaking my lease? If I move now I can have some money to spend as well as put away for a rainy day, or I can stay where I'm at and just get by. It's been difficult enough as it is just accepting the fact I can't do what I used to.

I was wondering when is the best time to get a financial advisor - I have just started my first 'real job' and I read a lot on personal finance; however, I always believe a professional opinion is sometimes priceless as opposed to learning the hardway. Should I wait to amass 100k in net worth (which would probably take a long time) Do financial planners even consider you when you don't have 100k? Please let me know. Thanks

I've heard of grants, but dont know much about them. Every time I try to research about them, someone wants to sell me something. I'm pretty sure I could apply and get one, but I dont know how.

I'm 19 y/o, 9 months pregnant, and for obvious reasons, unemployed.

My boyfriend and I are about to move into our apartment in two weeks. We are short on money to buy furniture. The only thing I can think of to get some money is to have a garage sale, but I know I won't get more than $50 from that, and I still need more than that. We can't wait to move in later because our daughter is due soon. Please, serious answers only!
