It depends hugely on which area you are living in, my husband and I live in a town just outside Bristol and we pay £476 per month rent (2 bed flat), around £30 a month water, £70 per month gas & electric (combined), Council Tax £90 a month (we are in the lowest band), TV Licence £27ish per month (when you get your first one if you want to pay in instalments you will pay for the first years licence over 4 or 5 months), food we usually spend £50 a week, we don't have a phone at the moment but I think line rental is arond £13 per month (plus VAT?) plus Sky/Cable and internet if you want them.

Electricity: $75 month, Satellite: $55 a month, Phone: $40 a month, Garbage: $10 a month, and of course your food and essentials. Depends on where you live and what is offered to be paid by your landlord.

heres the trick. no one is really can give you a handle on what to expect. here is what you should do:

1. Dont spend. eat at home.
2. Rent comes first, and electric bills
3. turn off lights, and heat when not using.

Your best bet is to find a place that offers free gas and light which is included with your rent..

Other than that I can not help you out for that is how I am living, my landlord paids the gas, lights, water and trash.
