I work in a bank and I feel the products we provide are good, but the customer service is even better ( I can only speak for my particular branch). I know for a fact that customers have returned to me because I have provided accurate and good service and that many will refer others to me.
I bank with three different banks (not keeping eggs in the same basket and all of that) and the service I get from the other two is abysmal. I confess, I am only there for the rate. It depends on what is most important to you saving a few extra pence or being treated like a human being?
If I am shopping for a product where communication is necessary (ie mortgage, current account, insurance) I choose service everytime. Where this is not necessary (internet accounts, life cover etc) I choose rates!

I suppose it would depend on how they made you feel as a customer. Case in point: I was very happy with a bank I was with, then I was forced to go into a credit union situation. I'm NOT AT ALL happy with those blokes.

Laura,
I'm not sure there is any reason to be loyal to a bank, lawyer, doctor, dentist, etc.
Things have changed....

While the banks offer a valued service to us, it is my belief that our loyalty to them doesn't seem to be proportional to what we get in return.
