It is anywhere from $2.89 to $3.00 per gallon here in Raleigh, North Carolina. I was wondering if that is an average price for gas right now across the country. It takes about $55 to fill up our tank. Tomorrow it will probably be even higher. (I didn't know what catagory to put this in.)

if you claim income support and receive 17 pounds a week maintenance for your child, can this be stopped from your benefit or would it be treated like earnings where you can earn up to 20 pounds a week before you lose money?

Hi there,
I have a private student loan that is a variable loan and the interest rate today is at 8.3%, the principal balance is $40,000. I have been paying on the loan since June 2003. The monthly payment started out at $300 a month and now it is at $400 a month. I'm worried it is going to keep going up as interest rates rise, besides saving to pay it off early, any suggestions as to how to get rid of it or get the interest rate fixed?

Thanks so much!

Where can I find a cost of living index for UK cities?

The salary I earn is less than that offered for similar roles in the south of England. My manager keeps pointing out that this is due to differences in the cost of living.

However, I think they are over-estimating this and would like to get some credible satistics to show them (& hopefully get them to pay me a fairer salary).

Thanks in advance.

I am truly overwhelmed! 1000s of pages/files - unsorted bills and account statements go back twenty years. Do I need to keep all IRA statements for tax purposes? Can I risk just shredding mail w/o opening if it is 0 to 10 years old? Same with all those insurance letters from Medicare and Blue Cross? What about: Memorabilia that I have not looked at in O to 50 years? Old mortgages, GI and VA records, college records and papers, computer discs, hundred of magazines, articles, books, videos? Compute parts, cables, discs? Must I sort magazines and books so I can give them to a library or is it OK to send them to recycle? Throw books away instead of selling or donating?
I have a huge problem. I have not opened much of my mail in five years and have a half dozen unread subscription mags too that are piled up. Lots of other things too, but the paper is the worst and not getting better. I have read dozens books on organizing and gotten advice, but it is not helping. My life is a MESS!

I have no idea of how i'm going to get the money to repay them back alone with a 2500 dollar student loan. I'm depsressed all these bills are driving me krazy they are also going on my credit report. Most of the bills are lab fee's. I also had to pay in full when i went to the doctor. So i have about 1000 dollars in lab fee's thats in collections. The 2000 other dollars are from a hospital bill just for a couple of hours. Can anyone give me information on how i could get help paying for my bills. I live in mobile alabama. If i dont do something then my credit would be messed up for 7yrs. I feel so helpless i have arthritis in both legs i have problems with my bladder i have to take at least 3 differents meds for that. I have cycst on my ovaries. So i'm allways at the doctor.

i'm having my condo appraised for a home equity loan and there is a realtor (not affiliated with the bank) that said she will be taking pictures of the inside of my condo. it seems a strange that she can't just estimate the value of the home by looking at it... and i'm a little suspect about her taking pictures of my stuff.(i don't want her to have pictures of what is in my home) is it absolutely necessary for a home appraisal??

I was thinking it might be useful to learn how other people manage their personal budget, so I appreciate if you can tell me how do you spread (%) your monthly income among:
1. living expenses
2. extras
3. savings
Also, please state the country you live in, age or group of age you belong to (upto 20, 20-40, 40-60, over 60) and if you are married or not.

Thank you for answering my question !

My husband I both work full time five days a week, and I sell odds and ends on E-bay & at a weekend flea market to make ends meet. We have basic bills (utilities, car note, rent, grocery, etc) that we have to pay and we do very well to budget and not spend unnessesary funds on frivolus items. Unfortunately, at least one debtor is still not paid on time every month and savings remains empty. Does anyone have an tricks to establishing a better budget plan that would in the least help us get back on track faster so that bills can be paid on time? Or, can you think of any other "money making" opportunities we might look into?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, my in-laws are both over 65 living in upstate New york. They have a barely affordable mortgage repayment and have just received a notice from a law firm regarding an outstanding credit card repayment which they absolutely can't afford. They also have a property tax bill due which they likely can't afford either. Does anyone have any advice on a possible solution for their situation. Is bankruptcy a possibility (I know the laws have changed on that front)
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I am considering the pros and cons of living NH versus MA.
NH has no state income tax and no sales tax.
Houses are generally cheaper in NH, but real-estate taxes appear to be higher (per sqft) there (or not?). Gas costs about the same (in fact, I've seen cheaper gas in Cambridge than in Nashua).
However, most people, if they can afford it, generally try to live in MA. Even at the border between NH and MA, the population is a lot more on the MA side. So what is the catch? What keeps people away from NH in spite of all the economic advantages?

We're not in debt, but we've got a huge lack of income over the next 5 months. I've got 2 jobs and I'm going to school full time -- so I've got as much income coming in that I can get.

However, we still won't have enough to live month to month.

We don't do credit cards or bank loans -- we've got no credit nor any desire to go into debt that way.

But, we do have a 401K with approx. $11,000 in it.

I know all about the potential money that we will lose over the years, but we don't really have any other way to get any income.

Thoughts?
