My friends and I are working on a graphic novel, and we're wondering about the copyrighting process. I've seen a few posts about copyrighting, and I have found numerous links to the general process and the prices involved. Anything not ours within the work will be of public domain, so obviously we're trying to protect the overall work/characters/idea from being stolen/used without our permission.
By submitting and copyrighting a rough version of our work does it protect the idea, the characters, the plot, etc or do certain things have to be registered separately on top of that submission? Does the submission for copyright need to be a final draft, or just complete enough to encompass what we'll be using? Should we send in any future volumes in for copyright as well or does simply copyrighting the original work give us control of and copyright for further works?
Thanks for any help/tips particularly if you've dealt with the process before.
