What it costs is the better question. It is sort of an egg-head's equivalent of qualifying for pro sports and getting picked to play on a championship team. You will have to be working your rear-end off in math and engineering and computer assisted design. You will have to be really, really, sharp. Now, after spending literal years of study at a top engineering school, you (or your parents, or the scholarship funds, or a student loan fund) will spend the better part of 100k preparing you for your ambition.

If you are good, really good, exceptionally good, Boeing (or Lockheed or others) will make it worth your while. But remember this, just like every kid who throws a football or shoots hoops while dreaming of being a pro, there are literal thousands of them with the dreams of holding down one of a very few hundred jobs, most won't make it. But you keep practicing anyway, right? Oh, yeah, whatever the job pays right now, it will be tremendously different when you get there. Work hard, stay sharp, and you will be exceptionally valuable whether you make it or not.
