in Des Moines, Iowa is tough right now. I am having a hard time even getting a job through temp. agencies. My fear is, the company I worked at for 11 years closed. Therefore, prospective employers have no verification. Or is it just the crummy job market right now? Getting worried!

I'm required to repay a $3K signing bonus I received from my current company due to my resignation occuring within one year of my hire date. Can the company legally deduct this amount from my final paycheck if I refuse to pay it back? I work in Virginia...

what would be the reasons a company would string you along as far as employment goes. this company says i have the job barring the background check, well its been 7 weeks now, i have even given them oppurtunitiys to be honest with me, i told them the company if there not interested i will move on, but they still say they want to hire me, barring the background check. why would a company string someone along like this??, i just dont get it. i mean its simple we either want you or we dont. please help out with your thoughts on this???

I work at a very small company. I've been here for over 2 years. I know that my boss and the owner have been interviewing people, and have been very quite on letting me in on any info. Should I just give two weeks notice now or let things play out and see if they offer me any type of severance? I'm afraid they will fire me for something and give me a bad reference if I don't go out while I'm ahead. Help please.

I am male. Everytime I get my hair cut, my hair sticks out, especially at the sides, even if I put gel in my hair. It looks as if I can't comb my hair. Will this effect whether or not I get hired?

So I work at resort. One of my managers informed me the other day that the resort manager said that they were iffy on hiring me because I wasn't an older hispanic woman.
That offended me. I am very good at my job ( I am a housekeeping manager) and I absolutely love the housekeeping world/customer service.

Today we started an incentive program. On the walkie talkie radio our resort manager specifically requested that a "WHITE ENGLISH SPEAKING" housekeeper clean a certain room...

I earlier in the day chose one of our hispanic ladies to clean the room because she does a great job and I felt like her work should be rewarded...

The resort manager supposedly makes snide little comments here and there when not in front of our entire housekeeping staff. I feel also there is some segregation going on because when the resort opened he hired 75% hispanic based on stereotype...

I want to report these actions...but am wondering if this is indeed a form of job discrimination. Thank You!

I'm 18 and this is my first job (I'm currently taking a break from school). I work in this popular/busy coffee shop. The manager has recently given me a warning. She said I should pick up more speed and brew as much coffee as possible. I'm doing my best now to improve. I'm on 3 months' probation, and this is my second month there. I asked her if she's thinking of letting me go, and she replied "No, not right now." Are these signs I'll be fired soon? Should I look for a new job NOW?

I found this job on career builder.com and was wondering if it's a good job. It kind of seems like one of those jobs where all you do is try to sell things to people...here are the details:

My co-worker gave his two weeks a few days ago and my job gave him a counter offer with more money. He didn't give me the details but he asked me if he should take it and stay or move on. I told him I heard job recruiters say never take a counter offer when you give your notice to your current employer. Does anyone know the reason behind this?

I don't know why, but I've never had to "practice" or review any questions before going into an interview. I've always went to interviews just being myself. And I always end up getting the job. Can anyone tell me where being honest can fail me at a job interview?

I read an article that said environmental jobs will grow tremendously in the next 10 years, much like the tech jobs are growing now. Does anyone have personal experience in this field? Do you agree that environmental jobs are about to soar? I'm interested in anyone's opinions on this matter, as long they are mature about it. Thanks!

Assume you are a mother and money is not that much of an issue. Would you rather have a full-time career that you really like or a really boring but well-paying part-time job (like 4 hours a day) that allowed you more enery and flexibility for being a parent?

I've been reading a lot of "How to do well in an interview" type stuff. They all tell you not to be negative about your current/past job. I can't think of many nice things to say about my current job. The Exception has become the Rule in almost every aspect. Things are very inconsistent and just don't make sense. The salesman are all out for themselves and their clients, and don't care if it screws anyone else over. I make tons of suggestions to help things run smoother, but they don't like change so all I get is "That's a good idea", but it's never implemented, or "Well, uh...we can't do that...it won't work...blah blah blah". The honest answer to "Why did you leave your last job?" is "because my managers were idiots!"
"When is the last time you thought outside the box?" We aren't allowed to think outside the box. And even if we do, it's really only common sense, which to normal people is nothing spectacular. My job itself isn't difficult, but the environment is.
