Yes. If you are Caucasian with ancestors from Northern Europe, forget about being hired...you'll be last on the "list". You are not politically "correct".

I never looked at race when I did hiring. I took whoever I honestly thought was best for the job and fit best personality wise with our office.

But larger companies have to look at it because of the stupid affirmative action laws in this country. I have seen very overqualified people be turned down for idiots with no experience because the company needed to hire a minority to fill some dumb legal quota

Race can not be used as a way to discriminate in employment.

Some companies promote affirmative action where they will intentionally seek out underrepresented groups in their workforce to bring more balance.

Other companies attempt to appear colorblind in hiring and base their decisions on experience, testing, etc.

It really just depends on the individual company and the culture of the company. Discrimination may be illegal but it still happens unofficially all the time.

Most employers want employees who will do the best job. Race doesn't play into that.

However, many companies hire minorities who are slightly less qualified (they aren't going to hire someone who is totally unqualified) to meet their quotas of hiring minorities.

Technically there are laws against that. I don't think they work but yeah what are you gonna do??? And I think every state has a peference it doesn't have to be by race alone but by status or their lifestyle choice whatever.
