I had scheduled for a trip to the Bahamas with some friends about two months ago. It is a 4-day trip and we will be leaving next week. However, I just got a job offer with a great company whose initial training will overlap with my trip. The HR department said I couldn't miss even one day of training even though I explained my situation. Also, they have no plans for training sessions in the near future. I must make a decision to either go on the trip or take the job. I like my friends a lot and REALLY want to go on the trip, but this job offer is a great opportunity. What should I do???

I was at an IT job interview, and the interviewers kept asking me "experience questions". They didn't depart from questions about experience. They did not ask any other kind of questions.

Well, what left me feeling ridiculed were:
1) Interviewer: Do you have experience in this and that?
Me: Yes, I have use that skill in such and such project in my previous job.
Interviewer: HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU'VE DONE THAT?
Me: Well, it was probably two years ago.
Interviewer: We're looking for someone who has done it RECENT.
(It turns out that having experience alone was not good enough. It had to be a RECENT EXPERIENCE.)

2) They asked my if I have database administrator experience in Oracle and SQL Server, but I could see that such experience was not needed based what they said during the later part of the interview. After all, I was interviewing for a helpdesk position.

What I want to pass on to others is this. To reiterate, having experience alone is not enough.

So, my manager just hired a new employee at the store I work at and she is a complete nut. She's an older woman, and is total bizarre. One of those women that you see hugging trees and counting the toes on her feet. Any suggestions on how to deal with this???

I interviewed for a job in my town last week. I did not get that job, but they decided I would be perfect for a similar job an hour away. There is NO way I can move at this time. I JUST MOVED last week--literally. I'm tired and I'm broke and I am finally settling in. The commute is one hour with normal traffic. I can imagine it being much worse in rush hour. The pay offer would be just fine if it were here in my city, but for that much driving/gas the offer is nowhere near enough. I did the math and I will be putting $250 per month in my car in gas.

Should I even consider this offer? Should I ask for more money? I need advice.

This is the first company that I ever worked for that I had a boss that steals my ideas and lies constantly! My boss always invites me to lunch were he likes to talk about work and pick my brain. After a few luncheons I realized that any suggestions and ideas that I would give him he would use in the office and take credit for it!!! Not only that I have caught him in quite a few lies bold faced ones and he spends more time walking around the office bragging about his past accomplishments and who he knows then he does working . On top of all this I was due up for my yearly review and he keeps putting it off. I have approached him twice about it and he I guess you could say he "sticks a pacifier in my mouth" by saying I will make time for your review and never does. Even though I am extremely frustrated and irritated I like the work I do and the company but I can not stand him as my boss. What can I do and approaching his boss in not an option. Help!!!

I was dismissed from my last job as I suffer from migraines, but now that I am feeling better and have not suffered from a migraine for over a month, I am looking at finding work again.

I recently applied for a job and looks like I didn't get it because my references on my resume/CV have given me bad references when the potential employer has called them.

What do I do????????

my father and I are living with relatives and now are trying to get into a mobile home I found for $9,500. But the mobile home is about 1.5 hours where we are staying, and I am currently in college, so at least for now my father would have to get a job in that area in order to payments, because at the present time he is unemployed and only gets $700/month from retirement. They do have a hospital in that area which is hiring housekeepers, and I did an online application for him, but how can I ensure that he will get the job? It sounds like an easy enough job for someone with his experience, and he worked as a custodian for almost 40 years. What can he do now that is likely to get him hired? Because it would really be out of the way to have to go all the way down there just to visit the hospital unless it was while we were going to see the lady about the house. So whay should my father do in order to get hired now that I have his application in?

A temp from temp agency is new on assignment and says the following:
1. All these folder/files on the desk are driving me crazy. I want to organize this desk.
2. I want to move all these files and folders around on the desk without knowing the reason why they are in a particular spot.
3. Tells the boss "Will I see you on Monday" when leaving for the weekend.
4. Tells the boss "I will see you tomorrow".
5. The boss notices she goffs off if told by boss, she will be in late in the morning or from lunch.
6. Goes on company website for personal banking when told to do some job in particular.

Are 1 and 2 appropraite for a temp?

Weird stuff is happening at work. I have a good-paying job (at the moment), but I don't think the group I work with thinks I have the right qualifications (the academic criteria needed). I've seen them interview people for my position before Thanksgiving, & they keep on stalling my project. I'd reasonably see people starting in the new year, not before the holidays, so I think I have no job security

I feel like they're going to get rid of me 12/28 - It's a Friday & the last day of the year. I haven't been doing any work for a while, & it's like they don't trust me with any. They give me something out of obligation it seems rather than necessity

You'd think that people would just get rid of someone b/c someone just didn't work out. The argument there is that some people were nasty & harassing to me when I first started; others sabotaged my work to make me look unqualified. The truth is, I can do my job. The other truth is that they may want someone who looks good on paper
