the company is full of groupies and the place is so close nit group. i have not been a groupie and will never be.

I do understand. I hate parties, and I dont drink (alcohol) so I stand out as being "different".
I much prefer to avoid parties, or if I HAVE to go, I'd rather sit in a corner and read a book. Call me unsocial, but that's the way I am. I'll probably lose my job eventually because I hate socialising. Oh wait - I already lost that last job.

To your additional info; life as well as company parties are what you make of it. Looks like you take pride in being an outsider - whatever, it's your own problem.
