what would be the reasons that a company would tell someone they have a job, then 7 weeks later they still dont have the job? im quite confused, why in the world would a company do this to a person, especially around the holidays? i know there has to be resons they would do this, i would like to think its not because it was some kind of practicial joke,

The only thing I can think of is that they are having financial problems. They can't really afford to pay a new person right now. I would contact them, ask for an update and try to pin them down to a specific start date. If they can't do that, you would be wise to start looking elsewhere for employment.

It probably isn't a practical joke, or even meant to be spiteful. There are many possible reasons. For example, they are hiring because they need help. Perhaps with the holidays approaching, they simply feel that they don't have time to get you started, train you, etc. It's inconsiderate to you, of course. My suggestion: don't wait for them to call you, find something else.
