Although I've read that it's against credit card company rules for merchants to use a minimum purchase amount, I was wondering if there was "etiquette" for using cards.

When I was young I was taught not to use a credit card if the purchase was below 20 dollars, and that you should use cash for something less than 20 dollars. Not because of the credit card fees that a merchant has to pay, but that it was rude.

Anyone else ever taught this? If merchants don't ask for a minimum, is there a standard? Or were my parents just strange?

Myself: I invest in a diversfied manner..
Ie; mostly funds, sone annuities (always high yeild), some stocks.

Mother:
My mom is almost totally cd's or annuities.

While I agree a portion should be annuity or bonds, I think doing 100% is stupid...

Any opinions.
My goal in this question is that I want to get her off my back in terms of 'why invest the way I am doing?'

To me the socalled safe way is not cost effective in that I consistantly get 3-6 times in % rate over what she gets.

It appears that all of this isnt enough, and I figure no amt of discussion is go change it.
I relize fdic is not involved on annuities or cd's in all cases.
Ie; just because its a bank doesnt mean the investment is covered by FDIC. (FDIC covers deposits not invesments).

Mother is 89 so I have no problem with her methods, but she has been doing annuity or cd' for 45 years.

Any ideas? - figured I would throw this question out there.

Of all the mystery shopper programs that I have looked into, I can't find any that do not require money up front, and I have heard that most things that need front money are scams. Have you ever participated in a program and actually made money at it? Are there any that dont require cash up front? Even one that does would be ok if it were the real deal and not a scam. Any feedback would be appreciated, and of course contact info would be great...I dont know if area matters as most programs seem to be nationwide, but i am in SE Texas. Thanks.
