I'm ready to jump from engineering (boring) into a full time career in tax preparation. I just love taxes to the core of my very being (don't bother telling me how weird I am, I know already).

There are many options and I want to hear from career tax people which they feel is the best and why? I want pros and cons. I'm also interested in potential annual salaries.

1) Full time job with a large firm like H&R Block, but not as a manager or any other job where you don't do many actual returns.

2) Tax firm franchise owner...should I purchase an existing office or start a new one.

3) Hang out a shingle and start my own office or partner with someone else who has done this, learn from them, then buy them out.

I have enough cash to weather a few years of low income, but I am not interested in an extended dry spell. Also, do I need a CPA degree or just an EA?

What do you do in the summer months to stay busy?

Thank you all for your time.

read to your kid for a hour ? I am going to start "story time" for kids 3-6. I read to them for an hour and the parents can either drop them off or stay and listen. I don't know how much to charge. Do you think that the local library would be o.k with it if I did it there?

My dad always said the hearse doesnt stop at the bank on the way to the cemetary.
All my familes life (and mine) we have stuggled to make ends meet and now we have enought money to be very comfortable. My father has to go to a nursing home and the nursing home is taking it all! all those years of saving. He hates the thought of it. No matter how hard you try the government ends up with your money. The more assets and money you have, the more they take. When people who havnt got a cent get in free and get a pension. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

My husband recently became unemployed as an transmission consultant and has taken a job selling Volkswagons. He has worked for a couple months and has taken a very good attitude about success. He is highly motivated, knowledgable and his employer has told him he's an excellent candidate in making this profitable for him.

With the current economy I am wondering how the automotive sales industry will be, it worries me because it is not a steady income just yet. The dealership is brand new in a suburban area of the Twin Cities (MN). It's a beautiful building yet is quite new and unestablished. It has good ratings, however. Does anyone have any input on the automotive sales industry within the specifics I've discussed?
